PLANET EARTH ENNUI A friend asked me the other day if I had the new Prince cd or was going to get it. I surprised myself with my answer. I hadn't thought much about it and just might not bother to buy it. Used to be, Prince could get away with saturating the market because the material was so strong. Not anymore. So much crap on his albums. I can't justify buying an album for the 1 or 2 good songs. I've heard Guitar and snippets of other stuff and I'm just not impressed. I wish he'd go away for about five years, write and record music, and give it to Wendy and Lisa to put together an album. He still misses their taste.
If this doesn't work, maybe he needs to do what James Brown did and just tour constantly and put on the best shows he can based on his work up to this point.

He gave Lion of Judah and it seems most of his fans don't like it. I just wish he'd stop tryin to please everybody, because that is a losers game. small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

Prince is fine on his own and he doesn't need Wendy and Lisa. Don't fool yourself about the past as Prince didn't use them like you think he did __________________________________________________

i was thinking of starting a post ... with "its a few weeks in ... and i still dont have Planet Earth "
i have listened to it on the web cast thingy .... on msn ... and i liked it ... I liked the Beatleesque feel to it ... at least that was my take ... the song "guitar" is one i did NOT like at first ... but after hearing it ... a few times , etc ... i like it more now ... i will buy it ... sometime (another reason is i do not have a cd player in my car lately ... so ... it will happen soon .... lol)

Oh Lord.
Wendy & Lisa have had very little 2 do with Prince's songs. Many years before them, he wrote alone. With them, he wrote alone, and after them, he wrote alone. They R barely on "Planet Earth", and had no input on the songwriting, which is fantastic. It's a very solid album, with only one song I don't like: "Mr. Goodnight". "Lion of Judah" is great. "Planet Earth" is astounding... Prince at his best. "Chelsea Rodgers" jams. Peace. "He's a musician's musician..."

The only song I dislike is "All The Midnights". |

Yeah, tell me about it. I mean, Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss had more of an influence on Prince's sound. "He's a musician's musician..."

Yeah, tell me about it. I mean, Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss had more of an influence on Prince's sound. eric never really left. What influence zhe girls had was grounding and of much benefit to his overall sound. They kept it real. Check the 3 albums starting with purple rain. These 3 records were surely influenced by dem tow! small circles, big wheels!

With 'Parade' and 'Around the World in a Day' (I HATE Acronyms), it's arguable 2 an extent, but I believe they had somewhat of a supporting role in the directions he wanted 2 go in, and encouraged him. They were like friends, and they inspired him with their presence and frank feedback. But musically? NOPE. "He's a musician's musician..."

From what I've read about Prince's studio work, W&L (sorry about the acronym) were hugely important to the final product on quite a few songs. I'm sorry if this sets you off.

I'm not impressed with what I've heard of Lion of Judah from Amazon's sampler. However, this doesn't refute my point. I assume they were given one song to work on. My idea is that he spend a few years working on material and let them separate the whey from the cream. I'm not saying they have to rework the songs. I also agree that he should stop trying to please everybody. That seems to have been the point of songs like Black Sweat, Fury, and Guitar. Nothing original about any of those.

True, Susan Rogers seemed to think they were a big deal, and she was around for all/most of those epic recordings.

Think of what you waste $12 bucks on. And for this small price you are getting a potentially life-altering unforgettable piece of art. You'll listen to one great song for the rest of your life. Have you bought a few overpriced Starbucks coffees, a handful of crappy magazines, a t shirt or a couple of Mojitos?
