I'm just playing. biggrin That said, I do adore the song. Probably among my top 5 songs he's done this decade.

What are your favorites from the album?

sorry, it was seriously my next vote
mainly i really have a difficult time digesting that vocal style
also, i respect Prince's feelings about many of his fans' attitudes 2ward him
(the reason for the "Purple Rain"-like opening)
and his need to retreat, seek wisdom and find solace in the Lord
but i have a hard time when he compares his own self to the "lion of judah"
loving those who would mock him while threatening to trample his enemies
"vengeance is mine saith the Lord"
it comes across as a bitter and egocentric song (nothing new there, eh?)
but maybe that's just me?
shrug

[Edited 8/1/07 2:10am]

Funny, I feel just the opposite. I feel Prince is feeling so insignificant and vulnerable, and actually admitting mistakes. Because of that, he tries to lift himself up by invoking the Lion of Judah. I treasure this song because it offers a rare glimpse into the human side of Prince, not the bravado of "Mr. Goodnight" and "Future Baby Mama".

lol To announce a few mistake publicly is indeed ridiculously egocentric!!!
(admittedly, some americans might disagree)

He's a drama queen. But that's what a lot of songwriting is about, taking the personal drama and broadcasting it, in this case loud and proud.
I love this song! easily my favourite on the album!

It's not a dumb thread, it's kinda of interesting to see what will be the last song to survive.

Actually, it's pretty rare for Prince to accept any of the responsibility or blame for relationship or career problems in his songs. There are really very few instances of it.

Exactly. I'd much rather see a human side to Prince than the constant bravado of "Mr. Goodnight" and "Future Baby Mama". I don't really see what's so egocentric about saying that he's made mistakes. Must be because I'm American, apparently.

yeah, I guess. we Americans are so stupid. I really hate us. razz

but yeah, that's why I feel like this is the first album he's put out in a long time that sounds like it was made be a real life, living, breathing, thinking human being, and not just another batch of widgets churned out by the Paisley Park factory.

That is true. Even though I prefer 3121 overall, Planet Earth is much more human and probably better for it.
