the number one album/cd used to have to sell mmmmmuccccchhhhh
more than a mere 135,000 copies to be number one. Prince saw it coming a long time ago the only ones who care about charts are the execs, and fans...I doubt that Prince cares

Only #2??? I mean, if you had said only #26, then I could understand the disappointment. The doom and gloom and constant Prince death knell on this site was funny for a while, but now it's boring.
Prince has long ago proven that he's so beyond record sales and all the smoke and mirrors that go along with the entertainment industry. Can't you just enjoy the uniqueness of Prince, and the fact that he debuts at or near the top of the chart with virtually no, or very minimal, airplay of his new music? Many stars have crashed and burned trying so hard to stay on top and Prince has just continued to do things his very unconventional way and is still at the top of his game. Stop worrying so much about numbers and just enjoy the man and his music.

Prince saw it coming a long time ago the only ones who care about charts are the execs, and fans...I doubt that Prince cares As PRINCE said way back in 1996 when he was on the Today show with Bryant Gumbel and Bryant said "Emancipation debuted at 11, fell to 36, then to 58, its still 58, are u disappointed" and Prince's reply was simply, no, he's already a success. And he also said it in 1998 on with Tavis saying with accounting they can tell me anything, im just making the music, the charts are someone else's they could really tell me anything, he has no control over where it debuts, falls, rises etc.. he really doesnt and niether does any other artist. Maybe Prince doesn't like whatever kind of deal Itunes offers him, that's the only reason I can think of as to why he wouldn't put it up there.

It`s strange but it is available on Itunes in most countries besides the states...
Just to let you know: I enjoy PE very much and i think it`s a great album. And with more singles and hopefully a video it will sell some more. But it is nevertheless strange that he selling so few records this week in the states. Both Musicology and 3121 sold like 90 to 100 % more in the first week. I know we have to wait for the final numbers, but i expected a higher sales number.Apparently the missing of interviews, no real promotion and no video is hurtíng the sales. And the verizon commercials had no effect on sales, too...

And the verizon commercials had no effect on sales, too... Thats true but everything has to be looked at. First the summer time is a real tough time to sell and promote, labels dont usually waste their time or resources, they are looking fourth quarter already. As far as Musicology and 3121 they both came out around the same time of the year, plus Musicology was riding off a big wave of appearances, tour, and the hall of fame. 3121 had a few of those things going on too. But i knew Planet Earth was going to be low key for him, despite the fact that we may hear some singles on this album, i can almost guarantee you that there is going to be no radio play or video play. I think Planet Earth is a top notch album, full of well crafted songs that could be played on the radio, but radios days were over about 20 years ago, and MTV died about the same time, so all im saying is dont be surprised if this album doesnt get any of those promo things. I can't figure out why some orgers can't see how or will not see that CD 's sales are on the decline and have been since the begining of this decade. didn't paul mccartney just do it? ----- Are you comparing Paul McCartney to Prince. Who is more marketable and I do not know if Paul sold more than Prince because like most of the world I do not pay any attention to the charts due to the fraud surrounding Soundscan. You need to do a little reserch on Soundscan and read a little bit about the decline in sales overall. I am also positive that Paul did not give away 2 million copies of his CD.

You need to keep up and get a clue. When has Prince sold a lot of CDs. He is 49 years old if he did not sell a lot when he was young what on God's green earth would make you think he would sell a lot now.
He is doing good for his age and the controversy that surrounds him. Bring some knowledge next time. ----- truefunksoldier said: laurarichardson said: ----- It must something to be irelevant and sell all those concert tickets. What a dissapointment NOW AND AGAIN: UTV/UMe’s Now 25 will top next week’s HITS Album Sales Chart with a second-week total of around 130-135k, which will be enough to turn back Prince’s Columbia debut, Planet Earth, now looking in the 95-100k range. The only other Top 10 debut among new releases looks to be Island’s Sum 41, now slated for a #7 bow at 45-50k. Disney’s Hannah Montana 2 is on target for #3 (80-85k), followed by New Line’s resilient Hairspray soundtrack (85-90k), Grand Hustle/Atlantic’s T.I. (60-65k), Interscope/A&M’s Fergie (50-55k), Sum 41, with WB’s Linkin Park, Hollywood’s Plain White T’s (making their bow in the Top 10 on the strength of the monster #1 single, “Hey There Delilah”) and Roadrunner’s Nickelback all in the 40-45k range. If the public really have no interest in him then why are they flocking to see him live in the UK and the USA ? A number 2 debut for an artist whose been making music for close to 30 years is a superb achievement , especially when lots could get hold of the album via ebay etc for considerably less than full price a week before its release . If the album falls down the charts in the following weeks so be it , the likes of Lovesexy and Parade didnt hang around in the US charts for that long either . Its funny how people are calling this album a flop, hmmm a 100,000 sold, when all is said and done he probably will end up selling 300,000 or so, how is that a flop? No promotion, no tour, and its not like Prince is just starting out or that alot of $$$ and promotion went into this. You wanna hear what a FLOP really is, take the new Rihanna cd, UNIVERSAL invested 20million in Promotion for this record, and so far its sold about 400-500,000 and most likely wont hit a million, not saying that anyone selling that much is a flop, but if you got a label doing 20 million in promo for it, then something is wrong with the system. Please folks learn what a FLOP is.
