Look it up. Thank you. uh, i think it's smoke, not smote. present tense is smite, so smote would only work in the past: "and we smote them all..." check the "O+>" cd booklet Whoa looks like somebody got SMOKED

But tell me: Why on earth doesn't it make you think of 'America', 'Denmark', 'Holland', 'Finland', 'Germany', 'Israeli', 'Ireland', 'New York', 'Klu Klux', 'George W', 'Bed Room', 'My Brain', 'My Heart', 'My Lover', 'My Mummy', 'My Daddy' or 'Ink Spot'? Seeing how this song is written by a black man i doubt if "ink spot" ever came to mind Some people always trying to iceskate uphill With 'ink spot', I referred to the ink spot test. That is some kind of psychological test, where people have to interpret a randomly formed ink spot. It shows what's on top of their minds. It's very commonly used. Joshy84au's post made me think of this test. He could have chosen billions of ways to give a meaning to the song and I wonder why he chose this one. By the way, I wonder why you chose to associate 'ink spot' with races.

I was! By the way, I think '7' has stupid lyrics, not worthy someone with spiritual aspirations. It litterally invites people to use agression to deal with their fears, especially if those are 7 letter fears. Joshy84au's post proves that to me. Prince should be ashamed of this, instead of his seemingly childlike innocence in 'Erotic City', 'Sister', 'Head' or 'Darling Nikki'.

That makes a lot of sense to me! This way, it doesn't sound very agressive. 'Smoking your sins out' even seems a pretty tender way to treat a dirty mind (and effective, since smoke doesn't deposit to minds). Seriously, I wonder if the seven candles in the Jewish tradition stand for smoking the seven sins? Anyway, this certainly makes me appreciate the song a lot more.

This song was not intended 2 have any specific prophetic significance.
But if that is what u r looking 4, read the book of Revelations.

The Taliban thing is a real stretch. You should try listening to your Prince records when you're not so stoned.

Joshy I understand what you are saying. You aren't saying that you think this is the meaning of the song, but rather what you feel now when you hear it. I can see where you would get that patriotic feeling and thinking of the taliban falling.
There are songs that I listen to that have their own meaning to me and do not necessarily coincide with what the creator of the song meant, but more to whatever I was experiencing while listening to the song. 7 is definitely a song to create deep feelings and sentiments and I imagine that you feel strongly about bringing "justice" and thus can easily relate to seeing the "Taliban fall".
