I thought the story was GB was recording at Paisley Park and got into discussion about JW with Prince and Prince decided to check it out further.... and did some bible study with Larry Graham. wasn't that larry? I have read more than once that it was GEORGE BENSON, not Larry that actually introduced Prince to JW... not trying to convert him... just answering Prince's questions about JW. then Larry Graham actually started studying the bible and was part of Prince's conversion. More than once this has been said in posts DEFENDING Larry Graham on his role in JW conversion. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

surely this aint true? "Im Too Funky To Sleep With Myself"

Henry Rollins once mocked Prince's literary referencing for Raspberry Beret saying, "The notion that a woman would be too big for a man to harm is laughable." Rollins thought he was referencing Descarte, he wasn't, he was referencing Sartre, which Prince pointed out at his afterparty that night - hence the longstanding fued between the two men.

surely this aint true? Yeah, that sounds unbelievable I doubt that Prince would have even allowed Guns N'Roses into his nightclub. He clearly doesn't like them.

The guys in Tony!Tone!Toni! were pissed at Prince in the late 80s.They were brought to his attention by Sheila E. and he was planning to sign them to Paisley Park Records. But according to the guys,"He kept frontin"....not returning their calls, making them wait and wait and wait. Finally, they got fed up and signed with EastWest Records instead.Their debut album was released in 1988.The second single "Born Not To Know" features a line directed at Prince:

Howard has ragged on everybody, but he was a fan. I'm not sure if he still is, however. Howard raved about Prince's superbowl performance. He's a fan, however, I think he was the first to call Prince "the artist we formerly cared about" back in the 90's.

tony mosley called us down to the glam, it was a weeknight when g&r played target center. we had no other reason to be there. when tony would call we knew prince would play. we were on the VIP list back then because we were considered the opening act for most rap groups that played glam at that time.

I love that song btw. I'm glad they didn't sign either. Just to think we might not have had classic albums like The Revival, Sons Of Soul and House of Music if they had... So in the end I think they made the right decision. Imagine TTT on the shelf as a protege act..

Well Alan Leeds said PP was a failure because WB never put in money into and P's manager went around signing up all sorts of crazy artist and groups.
The mgmt and WB appears to have had no real plan in place for the lable. I think it is a shame that all the blame get put on Prince. ----- SoulAlive said: MuthaFunka said: Actually, they dissed Prince by NOT signing with him because they knew he was gonna try and turn them into one of his protogee' groups and they weren't down for that, that's where the line that you posted comes in at and really means. that's true Let's face it,Paisley Park Records was a joke of a record label. The promotion of those albums was non-existent.

Well,it was his label He has to take the blame. Many of the artists that he signed (Carmen Elektra,TC Ellis,Ingrid Chavez) were friends of his. Some of these people didn't have alot of talent, and probably wouldn't have gotten a record deal elsewhere.Paisley Park was a vanity label, plain and simple. If you were a record exec at Warners, would you wanna spend alot of money to promote TC Ellis?

warners gave prince a lot of money to run paisley park, certainly enough to get started with. if prince had given the artists a bit of free will (and signed artists who had actually some degree of personal direction, rather than signing airheads and desperate hasbeens) and wasnt so hell bent on a) signing his buddies/sex partners regardless of talent and b) producing and writing more or less everything, it might have been a success.

Also, he gave the acts he had on Paisley Park that same artsy/fartsy sound that he himself had at the time that nobody wanted to hear. Mazarati was the best thing to come from Paisley Park and that was Brown Mark's group. Prince should have had his former protegees Andre Cymone, Morris Day, and Jesse Johnson on Paisley Park. People were loving their music in the late 1980s. In the late 1980s, Prince had become an artsy/fartsy joke. Andy is a four letter word.
