The only thing you have to be sorry for is your lack of paragraphs! Other than that, I loved your letter!

I really don't understand this whole, "Oh. He's older, so he's allowed to be shit" argument. Just because Paul Mc.Cartney released the 'Frog Chorus' song in his middle-age doesn't excuse Prince for singing about Dolphins in his.

And to all these people whom think the jazz-funk-noodling and preaching of 'The Rainbow Children' is revolutionary... GET OVER YOURSELVES! It was like listening to Al Sharpton with his head in a plastic bucket during a stage invasion at a Herbie Hancock concert. It's shit!!!

Prince makes the music so he can do what he wants with it!!!

Just my opinion, if you want to hear some of his earlier stuff, then you play it, record it and then listen til your hearts content!!!

He's been in the music business for 25-30 years, if he was still playing the same sound, i probably wouldn't appraciate him as much as i do now, it's because he's varied, that i adore him. I'm a prince fam that can love lovesexy one week, and the gold experience the next, its all about the various sounds he gives me that counts!!!

Prince if you do read this, please play Annastesia on the 7th August 2007 at O2, i heard a live version of that song on ONA album and went crazy in my living room!!!! ha ha lol

x x x x x x x lol wink lol wink
Don't hate me because i'm BEAUTIFUL....

Thanks Man. Sorry About the paragraph thing that was horrible. Your open letter was much better, wish I had wrote that instead. I'm getting ripped on, which I figured I would, but its amazing how people don't get where I'm really coming from.

You'd have to be either deaf or dead to not notice the lack of quality control after 1990.

I know that every album of his has had at least two or three outstanding tracks for the last 17 years - But the quantity of bad stuff is now affecting my appreciation of the good stuff...

It's like finding a fly in your soup at a restaurant. You wouldn't eat around the fly - you'd send the whole bowl of soup back and demand a replacement.

I really, really like "Somewhere Here On Earth" from the Planet Earth album - but at this moment in time I couldn't tell you if that's because it's a return to form or just because it's "the best of a bad bunch". I really don't know anymore.

And unlike others, the lyrics are a huge part of a song to me. I can't just appreciate the music and dismiss the lyrics. More often than not, a great melody is ruined by terrible lyrics and vice-versa. I wish that he'd co-write with Wendy and Lisa again.

Dear Loolam,

I totally dig where you are coming from! I SOOO miss the days when P was sexy & wild and it drove grown-ups CRAZY! Now we are grown-ups (pfft, yeah right!) and sadly times have changed. I miss the days when a new P album was chock full of musical and lyrical GENIUS.

I can still remember the day I bought SOTT on cassette and busted out of the store with my walkman JAMMIN'! I mean aside from the title track songs like Play in the Sunshine, It, 4ever in my Life, and The Cross. I'd never heard brilliance quite like it. That was a seminal album for me (obviously) and I miss those days where I could spend my hard earned money and LOVE EVERY SINGLE TRACK.

There are times where I feel he is just going through the motions and that saddens me. I still love his music to death but I miss the days of SOTT, Lovesexy, Come and such. Yeah I know I'm skipping albums here but what can I say?

To put it plainly I just wish he'd return to his roots a little more. Experimentation is nice but...

I'll be damned if you didn't nail it with that one Justin. I am currently going through my P inventory and after finishing the Vault I dropped Rainbow into the player. I am DESPERATELY searching for a good track on that one, so far the score is Good 0 and Stank 14.

Oh and DON'T get me started on that STUPID VOICE thing he does! (And PLEASE stop comparing that to Darth Vader, that's an insult to ol' Darth!!!)

Dude, he's NOT 25 with a tormented soul anymore. Maybe when you get to be our age, you'll understand that you view the world from a different place. He's creating the music he likes right now and if you don't like it, that's too bad.

I'm sure my sister who is an artist, is very happy that she isn't stuck creating the same stuff she did in her 20's. She broke new ground in her field and has grown with it, as has Prince.

Respect the talent, be thankful for what he has shared and don't demand things from others, worry about your own house.

Hey if you really feel he is truly putting out great stuff that's awesome, I'm happy for you, but there is a reason none of this shit is gonna be on any top 100 list 20 years from now(b4 u jump all over that I'm not suggesting everything he writes has too). I will always be a fan, but just like a fan of a team that hasn't been inthe playoffs for a while, I'm pissed!! I likethe music but its not top Prince music and if you don't think so your deaf.

i may be too old but I miss what new Prince music felt like. And I'm not just talking about the 80's!! IAM NOT A "HATER"! I AM More of a WANTER!!! Don't fault me because I know Prince is better than what he is offering, MUCH better!

Yes, that's true, he was over 25 when he wrote Wasted Kisses and I Love U, which happened to come out of his breakup with Mayte. I just threw the age of 25 out there as a generality.

The fact is, Prince seems to be happier now than he was even a couple of years ago. He's writing about what he wants to. If you don't like it, then listen to the music of his you do like, it's pretty simple. It's too bad you can't enjoy something out of the new stuff, but that's your problem, not mine.

I never pointed out where he was coming from emotionally, you did! I understand that a happier person is not going to come up with Dark material. Interestingly though only the amazing artist we know as Prince came up with the dark "Black album" and the happy "Lovesexy Album" in the same year. I'm well aware he writes what he wants too interms of lyrics and as I've said I'll always be there to listen, but my point is that he can do sooo much better, I mean "the One U wanna C" could just as easily be written by Sheryl Crow. Read my letter again as I have said he is always amazing even if in flashes. I AM A PRINCE FAN AND WILL ALWAYS BE.!!! The new stuff is cool but for Prince its soft!

It's ok, don't get upset over it. You're welcome to your opinion and it's cool you're passionate about it. But, if you want others to read all of your letter, you might want to edit and format it so it's a little easier to read.

I'm just the type of person who doesn't think I have the right to tell an artist how they should create their art, I just enjoy it. I never compare songs nor do I have the brain that can pick out a melody or whatever and say it sounds like another song. Sometimes ignorance can be bliss... wink

I can find something in pretty much every song of Prince's that I like, be it the guitar work, piano, etc.. I love his voice, so even if I don't like the song as a whole, his vocals might be what stand out for me.

Loolam and for any of you that have expectations or want something that is not there, you will always feel let down or disappointed. Your letter represents your feelings about Prince and his music, and no one will take that away from you. However, as I read your letter there are so many things that you said that indicate that you can not accept Prince for who he is. Prince does what's good for him and his soul.

"You should take about a week to listen to nothing but Prince from 78-95 then emulate and create! Hey see what happens."

Now why should Prince do that. Again, you want the "old" style Prince and want regurgitated music. Let me tell you nothing regurgitated tastes good.

"Again I’m talking by Prince standards..."

hmmm So you know what Prince's standards are. Surely you jest.

"You can play everything, but you don’t know what to play."

Seems to me that Prince plays exactly what he wants and the majority of people going to the concerts are loving it. As for when a new cd drops we always get this mixed bag of comments and that's ok. Not everyone will enjoy each song on a cd,but to dismiss an entire cd and feel like it is third grade material is very judgmental. You just told a brilliant musician that his output is that of a young child.

"I don’t want to here U2 or anyone else on a Prince record, so please make some Prince records, they’re so much better than what you’re doing, I want to here where Prince is right now."

I think you have heard where Prince is RIGHT now and you do not agree with it.

"Remember one thing, you created this type of fan base. Right from the beginning you purposely went away from the safe bet to gain the type of following you have. Two words, “Dirty Mind”, that was step one and since then you’ve cultivated a very passionate fan base."

No Prince created the music, not the fan base! The fan base as you refer to it is growing through the years, and it doesn't stay the same. Prince had a reason for doing what he did when he did it. Just as he has a reason to create the music of today.

"The last time I felt a sense of Prince getting somewhere was around 94-95 when you weren’t even called Prince."

Well from my pov I think Prince was going through something at that time,a new awakening so to speak. I'm not going to go into that though.

"In the meantime, I’ll be listening to some of your older work, you know, the stuff you said that when you made you were in the 3rd grade musically. Well that may be true but its much better that some of this PhD shit your putting out."

Wow so if it's music that requires a PhD and some thought you aren't down with it. hmmm I see, you only want the music of the id,and nothing more.

"And for the love of God Be Wild!"

And for the love of God,please don't judge Prince or anyone else.

Listen, we are fans thats it! Like a sports team that hasen't made the playoffs we get pissed! Prince is underachieving in my mind. Can I listen to it ? yes. Can he do better? absolutely!

The music drove the fan base and thats what we have. A mixed blend just like he wanted it, which is cool.
