I still dig this track and surprised by the negativity - its got so much postivity all over it (what some take for cheese) that if you just listen to this for a message of LOVE it will work 4 ya!
Kinda reminds me of Graffiti Bridge...hmmm The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Kinda reminds me of Graffiti Bridge...hmmm It's cheesy, all right -- like a big, stinky Camembert. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

not really simple kid stuff although the music and the way it's sung does suggest otherwise...perhaps it's irony? Hmmmm...so you're suggesting that Resolution is an exercise in Socratic irony? In other words, he's pretending to be foolish or ignorant, so as to expose the ignorance of someone else? Okay, now that's interesting. In that case, what he's really saying is that people who mouth platitudes like, "The main problem with war is that nobody ever wins," are fools who aren't dealing with the world as it really exists. They're a bunch of Pollyannas who think that by "visualizing world peace," all the fighting will stop as if by magic. As entertaining as I would find that...I don't think that's really what he means. But it might be just enough to get me to chuckle my way through the song, instead of gritting my teeth. umm...no, not what I meant at all. I had a much more simple thought in mind..that the music sounds light and poppy but the lyrics are rather heavy. "not a fan" yeah...ok

But...the "light and poppy" melody definitely fits into my Socratic irony theory. Can't you just see a bunch of hippies holding signs that say "Make love not war" bopping their heads side to side? Oh.My.God! He should see if he can get Cindy Sheehan to do the video! Put some love beads on her and get her to skip down the road outside the ranch in Crawford! I'm liking this more and more... "Joy to the world, all the boys and girls Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea Joy to you and me" Don't know the name of the song, just remember the chorus. That said, Resolution is still an OK track but definitely not one of the album's highlights. Ummmm...the song was called "Joy to the World." It's by Three Dog Night. we had to sing that song in elementry class for this teacher who insisted on doing a chior thing with 12 y/o's....of course we ahd to change all the drug.alcahol refrences....regardless....we were singing about a guy on an acid trip talking to an imaginary frog.

There are many Prince songs that deal with broad universal concepts and the reason that they still play well is the lack of specifics. Am I the only one who's reading some personal undertones in this song between prince and w & l?
I agree. One of my favourites on the album along with the title track, The One U Wanna C, Somewhere here on Earth & Lion of Judah. I think there are interpretations to be made with reference to Wendy on this one. Bring on an entire Prince/Wendy album next - I think he sounds more inspired on this album than he has in ages.

Score: 4 (out of 10) Probably a bit generous. The melody and chord changes are predictable and trite. I won't even go into the horrible lyrics. The one chord change that's sort of interesting is the movement to the bVII chord on the word "resolution" in the chorus, but other than that, the main part of the song just doesn't cut it. The bridge is a nice change and starts out with a nice melody and chord change. Kinda runs out halfway through with one of Prince's weird random transitional sing/speak thingys I'm not real fond of. But then the song picks up for the final choruses - the harmonies give it a lift and the song improves. Not a total disaster... it's still a thrill to hear Prince and Wendy and Lisa together. brink

Your ears do not deceive you. The songs are quite similar in structure, melody, and harmonic movement. Neither song has a truly separated verse and chorus -- it's kind of a blended verse/chorus and both songs use a 16-bar structure (OK, "The Morning Papers" adds an extra bar or two for that little music turnaround, but that's not much of a difference). The main hook of "Or just how far was the walk for the morning papers" is similar to "How many people really want resolution" and the chord movement underneath those lines are identical (V, bVII, I). Sorry for the technical notation, but it's a way of expressing the fact that the chords are essentially the same in that part, and those are not common chord changes deployed that way, especially for Prince. brink

Today I bought the official release of PE and when I put the cd in my computer the song is called "REVELATION" !!!
So it seems Revelation the real name of the song!

I like it when Prince does songs with a message. It shows that he does pay attention to the things going on in this world. God doesn't just tells me how much he "LOVE's" me, God shows me how much he "LOVE's" me. Both telling and showing "LOVE" means to "LOVE". They go hand in hand. You can't have one with out the other. Something is spoken, then followed by an action. That is

It strikes me as a very weak ending to the album. The lyrics are trite. Dear Mr Man and Money Don't Matter said the same thing but better than this. Shame really. All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

Solid album ending, I love it! Great song. A million times better than "All The Midnights" which has been the worst song for me every time I've listened to the album. |

Embarrassing. The lyrics could have been written by a 12 year old.
'Guitar' and 'the one u wanna c' also have basic immature lyrics but at least the music isnt too bad on them

The main problem with war Is that nobody ever wins The next generation grows up Learns how to do it all over again. No matter who started the argument Just matters how each one ends How many people really want resolution? The main problem with people Is they never do what they say One minute they want peace Then do everything to make it go away Dropping bombs on each other In the act of saving face Tell me now people how is that resolution? Either you do or you don't Either you will or you won't Making amends is a difficult pill to swallow What can we lose if we try? With no water a flower dies With no one to lead, resolution will follow. Love is like a circle No beginning and no end A broken heart will mend When you love it like your best friend Handle your heart with care It's as delicate as a wing When the storms come again Pray for resolution All over the world.....tell me how many people really want resolution? I've got a problem that I think P can resolve meet in the corner in the dark down the hall Some folks looking for a sign to let them know when in reality however while they're lookin they just missed the damn show the problem here as I see is Prince needs to come thrill me giving all this music away but makin me wait forever and a day I resolute to get down to some good funky sounds that make my mind go round like you do when I'm heaven bound... TUESDAY COME!!! Inside of Me, I am Free, Free to be Me.
