great message, just wish he had worked more on the lyrics and music here. One day I Prince would adapt using bongos or African beats or elements of other cultures in his music. I have 2 let this song and the Lion Of Judah sink in a little more. Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

As soon as I hear him starting to sing, it reminds me of some simplistic song on a children's TV programme for 4-7 year olds:
. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I think this song is great pop.. sounds like 7 mixed with raspberry beret.. not quite as good as either but really popish fun but with a serious message.

One of the best songs on Planet Earth IMO
No masterpiece, but a breezy, enjoyable popsong (the lyrics aside), one of the few songs i hear Prince trying actually something new: an almost acoustic seventies-type of pop-song, almost a bit folky.

Alltough it not really sounds like that song, it reminds me a bit of 'Hope of deliverance' from Paul McCartney, using a breezy, catchy popsong to deliver a 'message'.

I'm embarrassed for him on that one. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Overall I really love 2 tracks, (Planet Earth and Guitar)...I like 2 more a lot, (Somewhere Here On Earth and The One U Wanna C)... 2 are okay, (Mr. Goodnight and Lion Of Judah)... and the others, not so much. I have mixed feelings about the album similar to the way I felt about Musicology.
With the exception of one song, Somewhere Here On Earth, his voice is pretty average. The music is good although not particularly outstanding for me except for Planet Earth and Somewhere here on Earth. However, since Prince gave me exactly what I wanted with 3121 I won't complain or whine about PE. It's someone else's turn...that's all. I give PE a 6/10. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

lyrics:
The main problem with war Is that nobody ever wins The next generation grows up Learns how to do it all over again. No matter who started the argument Just matters how each one ends How many people really want resolution? The main problem with people Is they never do what they say One minute they want peace Then do everything to make it go away Dropping bombs on each other In the act of saving face Tell me now people how is that resolution? Either you do or you don't Either you will or you won't Making amends is a difficult pill to swallow What can we lose if we try? With no water a flower dies With no one to lead, resolution will follow. Love is like a circle No beginning and no end A broken heart will mend When you love it like your best friend Handle your heart with care It's as delicate as a wing When the storms come again Pray for resolution All over the world.....tell me how many people really want resolution?

I have read people being very criticial about these lyrics on another Prince fansite, but i dont really get that.
I mean, a pop-song is not really the 'device' for a solid political analysis, lyrics in a pop-song often work on another level. I mean, you can say the same about 'Imagine' by John Lennon, that those lyrics are expressing a naive take on reality, but nonetheless people keep being inspired by those lyrics, because they 'work' in the context of the music. I rate the lyrics of 'Imagine' higher then those of 'Resolution', but i mean, within the context of the music, within the context of a pop-song, the lyrics of Resolution are on spot IMO.

I <3 this song. It makes me feel 16 again.
The keys during the final fadeout almost bring tears to my eyes. [Edited 7/15/07 11:26am]

It's awful!!!
I like the production - the twangyness of the guitars and W&L's cooing vocals... However, the lyrics are nothing more than embarrassing High School poetry and the melody sounds like something Bruno Martelli would have composed for Doris Schwartz to sing, at a benefit concert for a student with brain cancer - or something.

I don't understand all the hate for what is a GREAT song...all the bickering about the complexity of the lyrics? There are many Prince songs that deal with broad universal concepts and the reason that they still play well is the lack of specifics. You could make the same arguments about Pop Life...which has simple lyrics with big ideas. But I suppose some would like another Ronnie Talk to Russia. I think the ones that are accusing this song of being simple minded lack the depth to really understand the song. Am I the only one who's reading some personal undertones in this song between prince and w & l? So haters...whats the matter with your life?
