This is classic Prince pop; fun, charming, and cool. I am with u on Prince is Amazing no matter what he does there is never realy a (chicago) sound to Prince and his music, sound or noise. I Love the the man he is ONLY true to himself and his music.

Horrible song and his worst single for some time. Truly wretched and makes Peach sound like a classic as well....not a good thing.

On its own, it's a nice, catchy little tune. But listening to it on the album right after "Planet Earth" seems to add another dimension to it. I can't really explain it, but it hits me harder if I listen to those two songs back to back instead of just "Guitar". It reminds me of how much I wish he had left "Endorphinmachine" and "Space" back-to-back on either Come or TGE. "Space" is the perfect comedown from "Endorphinmachine", something that "Shhh" couldn't accomplish.

It reminds me of U2...sorry

I love this song the music is great but well the words don't seem to match the power of the music.
I now block out the words because they really are a bit too silly.

I don't have an opinion on the segues between songs that ended up on Come or TGE, but I agree that "Planet Earth" and "Guitar" work well back-to-back. Sequencing -- the lost art of making an album! It's one thing that really is too bad to lose in the day of the mp3... I'm a big believer in sequencing and how it speaks to the listener. When done properly... the sum is definitely greater than the parts. Anyway, I happen to think this track is pretty good. Bland and Sonny T sound awesome as always (I love the subtle change of Michael going from quarter notes on the hats on the first verse to eighth notes on the second), Prince's guitar tone sounds amazing again (it's been a while), and I like the simplicity of the arrangement. He didn't overproduce this one (I'm looking at YOU, "Endorphinmachine"...) and though it clearly bites the melody and phrasing of "Girls And Boys," this one works for me. I'm buying it. brink

Guitar is a minor hit right now in the Netherlands.
Last week it entered the countriest top 50 at place 48, this second week it has risen top nr. 30. As far as i remember thats the highest score since the single Musicology (which was a top 10 hit here), and i expect it to rise more.

Both telling and showing "LOVE" means to "LOVE". They go hand in hand. You can't have one with out the other. Something is spoken, then followed by an action. That is

I would never expect nor ask to been love like your Guitar! How could I, if I were your woman?
To mean that, would been like to ask Jesus he should love me more as The Holy Scripts! ANd afterall, you and blessed musical talent make hudreds, thouseands, no... millions of peolpe happy and give to us all so wonderfull sounds... What would be, if you would have to love a woman like your guitar? You have to have all the time for her! And what would be with all the wonderful people who are enjoying you and your sounds? ... They would become very sad. No. I would not want that. First I would renunce to love you. I would been also sad, but many, many people happy. That is what God wants. That is what I need. Because babe, I love you, your Guitar and your music, but not like I love JAH!

TheEnglishGent said: I really like this track but it has one big problem. The fade out at the end. What's that all about? There's a fine solo going on, but then it just disappears. Why not keep it up for two more minutes and end it properly? In fact, keep it up for another 5'46 and forget somewhere here on earth!
Now that was purty funny! Ha. Still, I do like SHOE tho' but you're right, the solo should not have ended like that. And yeah, version 2.0 is a big improvement over that crappy beta 1.0 release. [Edited 7/20/07 13:42pm] Forever changed

I haven't watched BET, VHI, or MTV in months. Are they even playing the video. The only version I've seen is the teaser on the Verizon wireless commercial. Not that I would watch MTV anyway with all their stupid generation "Z" television shows.

I have to agree it does remind me of "Fury" and "Peach."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's fun enough. Feels like a template to play guitar over rather than a fully realised song though. Similar to Fury in that respect. Glug, glug like a mug

This song is actually a weak song, but has some good guitar playing in it. I guess that's why he called it guitar . Truly a filler at this point.

Everything about Guitar is borrowed but somehow the song is fun because it doesn't pretend to be more than an excuse to show off on guitar. [Edited 7/21/07 13:06pm]

When you know how great a guitar player Prince is, this song does not do him justice. The riff gets boring by the end of the song and the solo fades when it's just starting to crank. He has nothing to say with his playing on this song except "I'm still a pop star, no really"
I'll admit it works with the flow of the album after Planet Earth, which has grown on me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep, this song is begging for an extended guitar solo. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Heard this song tonight in 320 quality and enjoyed it a good deal more than in the past. Some of the lyrics are still abominable but had he had let the melody and all but drum and bass be done by guitar he could have had a truly great rock song. No hard feelings.
