I felt the same way about Musicology and 3121 and now I absolutely love 'em both. Especially 3121, it is one of my favs by Prince. I don't expect ppl to buy the album hoping that it will grow on them as did Musicology and 3121, but they did grow on me very well. The only album that has not grown on me in The Black Album

I already pre-ordered my PE and I have listened to all the tracks, I like it, and will like it more as a really listen to it

Don't buy the album , just buy a concert ticket instead . You get to see him live , you'll get the CD for free , Prince makes more money too , everyones happy

If, we'll say, you were to obtain a link to illegally download tracks from an album that had yet to be released. You download the material, then burn it onto a CD-R to play whenever and wherever you wanted. Forgetting about the moral and ethical problems with doing so, if you were to do it, shouldn't you be obligated to purchase the CD when it becomes legally available in stores, thus properly compensating the artist for the right to enjoy his/her art? That, ladies and gentlemen, is my arguement...

What I'm saying is that fact in and of itself should be reason enough to purchase the "Planet Earth" CD as posed by the inquiry in the initial post. Nothing less, nothing more...

Downloading complete copies of something without paying for it is stealing...

Shame people want to twist some sort of justifible logic into this and act otherwise; making lame arguements about "what if this" and "what if that".

If you already downloaded the album, (I'm just assuming from the initial post) you have received the goods, so to not pay financially it is theft. If you met Prince, do you think he would appreciate you getting it for nothing? (Of course you could just buy a paper in the UK:)

Seriously though,the best reason to actually BUY Planet Earth, is that you already have...just without doing your part.

If you need strangers to give you a good reason to buy it, you DON'T need to buy it!

There are a lot of smart people on this thread debating a very complex issue.

This troubling debate will and should continue.

However, the moral/ethical grounds of the new digital listening experience seem far less complex.

If you choose not to buy, then you erase from your hard drive. If you don't get around to listening to the preview album for months or even years, fine, but when you do finally get the time, you only have a finite amount of time to listen.

I don't know what that timetable should be for you, but each person will eventually know when this period of preview has lifted.

When it lifts, you either erase or buy.

If someone gives this CD to someone else as a gift or as part of a concert, so bet it. That individual now owns that CD. But others receiving gifts or concert privileges has nothing whatsoever to do with me.

"Free the music" to me has always been a metaphor for allowing the artist to release as much or as little music as they so wish, whenever they wish.

I don't think that it has ever meant that the music will all now be given away literally for no charge.

And, if you're only feeling one song, the digital shoppes such as iTunes usually go a long way towards assisting.

1) mr. goodnight is a turn on, planet earth (the title track) is epic fun turned up high, you'll probably hear something else you like, and cd's are good back ups (ipods aren't perfect).

No I am not. I am saying that just because it is a new Prince album is not a good enough reason to buy it. I know people who do not even like three tracks on there and no matter how long their fandom, they will not be buying it. It does not make them any less Prince fans because of it.
