This really is a sad and disheartening thread. The album hasn't even been officially released yet. The sound quality of the leak is terrible! (mono @96kbps). For all we know there could be some cool stereo effects in there that we haven't heard!!

hell, i already love it the way it is. i'm actually nervous that the high quality version will end up sounding over-produced, a la 3121.

3121 wasn't overproduced confused. That's such an over used catch phrase these days. Most of the tracks on 3121 have pretty straight forward arrangements and instrumentation (except maybe "The Dance"). It's only 12 tracks, less than an hours length... How is that overproduced? If anything, it's probably under-produced.

Cool stereo effects really wouldn't change the structure of the song, it's lyrics, build, feel etc, it's still gonna be the same song.

But I understand the point, that hearing them in a low encode, you can miss stuff.

NPS doesn't deserve to be in his bottom five. Have you guys not heard Mad Sex? God, I love that song. Wasted Kisses, Come On, New Power Soul, The One... it's a pretty good, fun album as far as I'm concerned.

His five worst to me are:

1. 3121 (just boring, no real substance, and so so generic sounding)
2. Diamonds & Pearls (dated terribly)
3. The Vault
4. Graffiti Bridge (when it shines it really shines, but fuck me there's some shit on that record)
5. N.E.W.S. (it bored me too much to pick out any one part of the record and critique it).

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned "The Rainbow Children", or as I call it, "The Rainbow Rugrats", as one of their top 5 worst. It definitely scores #1 on my list.

Planet Earth is great, I'm loving it already. music boogie

Maybe it's an overused catch prase because it's true.

The production is so slick and glossy and sucks all of the life out of the songs.

ideation99, you say the past time you didn't buy a Prince album was in 1982, that would be '1999'; can I ask why you didn't buy this album? I haven't heard Planet Earth yet, but your comment re 1982's release intrigues me.

I didn't mean to confuse you with this comment. By saying "1982" I meant this is how long I've been a Prince fan. I LOVE 1999, it might even be my favorite album by him since it was my first intro to the man. I've purchased everything he's releases since on the intitial day of release. The only exception was "The Vault" mainly because at that time he was putting out so many contractual releases for Warners and it got terrible reviews. I actually really liked that album after I finally heard it and still do. So I hope this clarifies the 1982 comment. I've just come to the conclusion the Prince music of today is just not that interesting to me
sad If he just started making music in 1997, I would never have become a fan most likely. Or I would've only bought one or two albums.

Even though Planet Earth is weak by his standards of music, Prince will always be my favorite artist for what he's created over the years. He just hasn't made much that is special in my ears (with much consistancy) over the last 10 years.

I haven't heard it yet but how dare you or anybody else list Diamonds and Pearls as one of his worsts albums. Are you insane? D&P is clearly his best album of all time (at least to me) and one of the best tours. Now you can take your pick on any other album but leave D&P alone. Got It! Now back to Planet Earth. I haven't heard it yet so do you have any clips of it?
Peace and be wild!
