The greatest Rommance. Don't get me wrong like the song, but there were better songs on rave that he should of released instead.

Chrissy- "Musicology" is actually a great single, probably his best from the decade! My vote for worst single goes to "Daisy Chain".

If I was your girlfriend.

Probably the best track on the album, but completely un-radio friendly as a single. This one release stopped the album becoming the 20 million seller it could have been.

though content-wise, either 'te amo corazon' or 'black sweat' get my vote, especially when they had the nerve to release those stupid one-track cd singles! WHAT'S THIS ONE SONG SHIT?!?!? mad

No way, that was a great song to release. It actually hit the UK top 20, too.
Just 'cos it doesn't do business in the US... doesn't make it a bad choice.

Diamond of a song.

You like "Daisy Chain"? eek

I know I'm in the minority with "Musicology", but I really, really dig it. The album itself has fallen off a bit for me, but that single and a few others are strong.

I love the song, but in single and album promotion terms, it bombed. It only made it to number 20 in the UK, which in Prince second single terms was a flop.

Bearing in mind the job of a single is to promote an album, it was a terrible choice as the second release.

For the Uk market, much better choices would have been U Got The Look, Strange Relationship, I Could never take the place of your man, Housequake or Hot thing.

They would have recieved ten times more radio play.

We'll agree to disagree, then. smile

A top 20 single ain't a flop for an artist that didn't make the top 10 singles chart very regularly anyway.
Purple Rain aside, few Prince albums spawned more than one top 10 hit in the UK.

Agreed."If I Was Your Girlfriend" is too quirky to be a single. Here in the States, the song bombed big time.Radio was scared of this song. The few people who heard it thought Prince had gone insane, lol. They didn't understand the song. The song stalled the momentum of the 'Sign O The Times' album.A better choice for second single would have been "Housequake".

That was the time when getting into the top 20 was a failure for Prince. Now it would be seen as success.. it was a sign of those times.

The Holy River, Betcha By Golly Wow!, but the Most Beautiful Girl In The World really sucked arse. It was commercially successful, but you have to have an arse suck of a song to get a hit these days.

biggrin

I think Prince cocked up most of the single releases between 85 and 90.

From a purely commercial standpoint, I think he should have released singles in this order.....

85 - America, then Pop Life, Raspberry Beret and finished with The Ladder. This would have kept the general public interested and drawn more people to the Album.

86 - Kiss, Girls & Boys, Anotherloverholenyohead. Great album, weak for singles. Play the big three and run for cover!

87 - SOTT, U Got The Look, Housequake, ICNTTPOYM. Full of potential hits. Could have been P's Thriller if he hadn't have released IIWYGF and lost interest.

88 - Alphabet St, Lovesexy, When 2 R In Love. Like Parade, release the big numbers and run.

89 - Batdance, The Future, Party Man, Trust. Release the singles to suit the market. They want Batman. Give them the most prominent songs from the film. Self advertising.

90 - Thieves In The Temple, Can't Stop, The Latest Fashion. Get the pop tunes out, the gems aren't commercial enough (Joy, Q Of U etc.). Also, cross promote with The Time.

Fire away!!!! biggrin
