you're kidding me right?
the song is about losing a friend or anyone close to you. basically it means hold on to what you have because one day it may be gone so appreciate the ones you love while they are here.

This is Prince's song about the death of this boyfriend. Tracey was Prince's first love, and they often hid in their private skiing lodge away from the media in the Illinois mountains. They had been spending the weekend hiding Prince's purple headed colon ferret so they decided to go out for a walk. When they left the lodge, they realised that it had been snowing, unusual for April. Prince got some snow on his purple high heals, so he tapped them against the door to knock it off. Suddenly, the huge amount of snow shifted off the roof and killed poor Tracey. If only they had known that sometimes it snows in april. Tracey was a human rights lawyer who battled through the civil courts for gay rights before dying shortly afterwards. Hence "Tracey died soon after a long fought civil law". and "Those kind of barrs don't pass you every day". He was also a part time hypnotist and race car driver. Sad, very sad. .

kinky!!! and cause i've never really knew the lyrics: Tracy died soon after a long fought civil war, just after I'd wiped away his last tear I guess he's better off than he was before, A whole lot better off than the fools he left here I used 2 cry 4 Tracy because he was my only friend Those kind of cars don't pass u every day I used 2 cry 4 Tracy because I wanted to see him again, But sometimes sometimes life ain't always the way... Sometimes it snows in April Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad Sometimes I wish life was never ending, and all good things, they say, never last Springtime was always my favorite time of year, A time 4 lovers holding hands in the rain Now springtime only reminds me of Tracy's tears Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain He used 2 say so strong unafraid to die Unafraid of the death that left me hypnotized No, staring at his picture I realized No one could cry the way my Tracy cried Sometimes it snows in April Sometimes I feel so bad Sometimes, sometimes I wish that life was never ending, And all good things, they say, never last I often dream of heaven and I know that Tracy's there I know that he has found another friend Maybe he's found the answer 2 all the April snow Maybe one day I'll see my Tracy again Sometimes it snows in April Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad Sometimes I wish that life was never ending, But all good things, they say, never last All good things that say, never last And love, it isn't love until it's past [Edited 7/11/07 12:47pm] Space for sale...

"Snow in April" is a metaphor for a sudden, unexpected loss or disappointment.
Anybody who lives in the snowbelt understands: You have a few warm days after a long, cold winter...the trees start to bud...the birds come back...the crocuses peek through...you feel all giddy because you think it's spring. So you put on a pair of sandals and WHAMMO!! you get half-a-foot of snow. That's what it means. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This has always been one of my favourite prince songs, after all these years it still never fails to make me cry! April last year I was sat home alone listening to this song and we got the biggest snow fall. It was magical! 'Love God'

This is one of the most beautiful songs he has ever released, a great end to a truly fantastic album.
The best collaboration between Prince, Wendy & Lisa ever.

It's about vagina's.
Prince was totally obsessed with vagina's at that point in his life. His theory is that men can become so obsessed with them that they can lose their life. In that song, his friend, Christopher Tracy passes away over a vagina.

It's ironic, really, isn't it? All those songs Prince recorded and then got Sheila, Morris, Vanity &c. to sing over his lead vocals to make it sound like their own song...and here are Wendy & Lisa doing exactly the same thing with him!
As happened more often then we think, I suspect...
