Come - Appreciation Thread I didn't like this album back when, but I'm really liking it now, I think it has aged very well.
Compared to recent albums (Musicology, 3121...) it sounds cohesive, it sounds like he made the album with an intent rather than just being a selection of songs. This feels like the flipside of Lovesexy, a proper "Black" album. Darksexy. Also, the last song on Lovesexy, Positivity, ends with the sound of waves gently lapping. Come starts with waves crashing, queue up the last song of Lovesexy to run into the first song on Come, they could have been a double album. The first five tracks are stellar, really, they remind me of Madonna's Erotic in tone, grindingly sexy, black and white, troubled. Loose! This track tears it up, a showcase song for surprising non-fans, "Prince does techno-Industrial?!" And he pulls it off, much better than anything on the third disc of Emancipation. i always liked it. the album has alot of emotional textures (light/dark). i like your point about its cohesiveness. on the whole, i appreciate more conceptual albums. they read like aural books and tend to age better, IMO. DarkSexy is a good description of 'Come.'

i think this album is to prince as the "low" album is to bowie.
it's an experimental gem that eludes mainstream accolades but those in the know are convinced of its brilliance. also, both albums are the results of failed projects and turned out to be better for it.

I love Come. I listened a lot to tracks like Space, Race, Papa, Dark, Letitgo
As was said earlier, wonderful arrangements, a top band (with Sonny T and Michael B). Oh yes, Pheromone is on that album too. It rocks!

I know I've said this at least 50 times on this site. The title track of the Come album is some of P's finest work. The rest of the album is great. After a long day just give me a bottle of white wine, a man with a strong back, and this cd and its gonna be beautiful night...

In my top 5 Prince albums. Top five = I can listen straight through without skipping a song. (Orgasm doesn't count as a song. )
Up until the late 90s I was only a casual Prince fan and so when I started buying all the cds (once I became "hardcore" ) I have to admit, this one did not appeal to me. I hate Prince's look during that era, and I thought the songs on the album sounded pretty smutty (even though I loved songs like Head & Gett Off). I actually traded one of our summer interns a promo Pretenders CD for the Come Album, and at first I wasn't that crazy about it. But as I said at the beginning now it's top 5! The Space remixes are must haves as well, and I do like the alternate version of Come on The Work a little better, but the album version is still . I still think Prince looks kind of sick (not in a good way) during this period--too skinny and pale, but love the album. . [Edited 7/11/07 14:48pm]
