Which was the last Prince album where you could name the tracks off by heart and in order?
I hear people referring to tracks released over the last few years and I am surprised that I have to really think which album they came from whereas up to Diamonds and Pearls I knew them all...

tell me about it! I would have said Lovesexy too but once I thought about I managed to make it to D&P - after that I reckon I get to about track 2 of the symbol album!

Interesting question, and I have wasted about half an hour discovering the answer is Purple Rain.
Scary. Have bought everything as soon as it was released since Purple Rain, and can barely get to track 5 off the top of my head on most of 'em!

every single one with the xception of planet earth... man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Don't you feel that's something of a reflection on society in general? Most people don't seem to want the longer experience. Films that go over 2 hours are usually criticised for being too long now, yet most films under that fail to tell the story as well as it should be told. I reckon the driving force behind music output, the label owners, realise people seem to prefer the short, sharp single songs experience (skipping tracks etc.) rather than taking the time to appreciate a whole album now. I don't mean to generalise with this, but I do believe modern day pressures move people in this direction. So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I don't mean to generalise with this, but I do believe modern day pressures move people in this direction. yes i agree, it does. but i also think that this won't last forever since it leaves people wanting more all of the time yet all that's on offer is that same bitesized portion of something that could be so much better if it were presented as a whole, longer or bigger package. what you say about the movies is so true, i read that all the time in reviews lately, how movies to go 2 hours or over are -too long, too winding and too boring. wtf? and these are still hollywood productions so they're already jam packed with action and stuff. how about watching an art house flick for 3 hours huh? lol. i wonder how many young kids today would not consider that absolute torture. yet, i totally do enjoy such things. it relaxes and calms you and doesn't make you feel like it is only meant to stimulate you for 5 minutes before moving you along to the next consumer isle where another marketing gun is aimed at you in 50 years from now people are going to look back at this time and wonder how people kept from going insane in this particle bombardment world that we live in today. it's just flash flash flash move along flash flash flash non stop 24/7 omg, so am i lol. i'll stop ranting now excuse me and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think I can do it with Planet Earth, although I haven't heard it yet. I know I can with 3121 and most of Prince's albums. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I hear people referring to tracks released over the last few years and I am surprised that I have to really think which album they came from whereas up to Diamonds and Pearls I knew them all... I always listen to albums in shuffle mode, so I don't remember the exact track lists of any album. I do know what song is on what album, at least until about 1995...
