Somewhere here on earth (first impressions)

While were busy on it (i mean it seems a lot of us have allready heard the full version) here another new-song topic biggrin

What are your first impressions of this song.

Probably the track of the album i like the most so far. It reminds me of Power Fantastic, with the muted trumpet and slighty jazzy feel. But the arrangement is also a bit more elaborated, with (sampled?) flutes and strings (?). The piano is more in the background then on Power Fantastic.

It wouldnt sound out of place on Parade in a way, but therefore its also lacking one element that made the ballads on Parade 'different': the harder, altered drumsound. I am missing them a bit on this song, but its nice to hear the drums get more prominent sounding near the end of the song (like going from brushes to drumsticks).

And, finally, one aspect why i consider this the best song on Planet Earth so far: The melody! I remember being dissapointed with most of the melodies on Musicology and 3121, but this song has a very fluent melody and strong reffrain.

IMO, In terms of melody and arrangement it really outshines Future Baby Mama, which i consider a bit too generic and boring.

2 huge reasons why I am feeling this song...
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

As much as i like The Dance, i think this ballad is even a lot stronger.

IMO his best ballad since I love you, but i dont trust you anymore from Rave.

Not what I expected, but very good song. Reminds me of "Damn U". I really like the piano, but personally I like FBM a lot more. It will probably grow on me, especially in the context of the album. Vocals again reflect a return to form.

I love this song. It's jazz sounds really becomes Prince. When he first starts to sing, he kinda sounds like Smokey Robinson to me.
