With Planet Earth's pending doom, Whats next for the Purple One ?

With the early reviews being lukewarm and many people inlcuding myself thinking the original Guitar version was better than the new one(I know it had no guitar lol ) it is clear to say this album won't last long in the public's mind.

I'm predicting by the time he finishes the shows in London the CD wont be in the top 20 album charts, which means it will be difficult to tour in America unless he does the hits show again a la 2004.

IF GUITAR IS THE BEST THING ON THIS ALBUM WE IN TROUBLE PEOPLE!

I hate this because it took him 20 years and Beyonce to become hot again.

It looks like he may be headed for another NEWPOWERSOUL era (God help us all)

What do you think Prince should do after London and the planet earth has cooled down to try and stay relevant?
My ideas:

1.MOVE BACK TO MINNEAPOLIS TO RECORD!

2.BECOME CREATIVE IN SOUNDS AND ARRANGEMENTS AGAIN!

3.GET A YOUNG PRODUCER! QUESTLOVE OR PHARELL

4.GET A VIABLE SIDE PROJECT TO STAY MOTIVATED I.E. THE TIME

5. STOP FLOODING THE MARKET WITH MEDIOCRE ALBUMS EVERY YEAR! every 2 years would be better

what are some of your ideas?

Is that what you got from the reviews? I think it stated somewhere that at least it sounded more coherent than 3121, as well as more energetic, and it seems there are some pretty worthwhile songs on it, with surprising elements and all..

The reviewer actually posted a little addendum on HQ, as a response to someone's question:

"Well the music on it is quite strong, i mean about arrangements and how the songs sound like. I said that the album "3121" sounded flat after this one. I think this album is more sounding 2007-like than "3121" which was sounding already old when released. This one is much more into nowaday's music. Listen to the beat of "Guitar", it's quite fast. This time, the first single is representative of what the album sounds like.

This is an energic album. Even the ballads sound superior than everything we heard on Musicology ("Call My name" was not my cup of tea and i can't listen to songs like "On the Couch"). There are two very strong songs: "Planet Earth" and "Chelsea Rodgers", the last being very different from the rest of the album with its disco-flavoured beat. Some songs need to be listened again, such as "Mr Goodnight" (Prince speaks about himself in this song) or "The One U Wanna C". At the end of "All the Midnights..." we all looked to each other, not knowing what to think about this song. Then we called it crap.

The main problems might be songwriting and too much songs of the same kind (well, some people didn't liked that "3121" was like a melting-pot).

Well tastes are always different depending on people. Personnaly, I don't dislike the pop/rock side of Prince music so i mostly enjoyed this album. If you liked songs like "A Million Days" you might like this album.

Oh, i also said this album is like a mix between "Musicology" and "Chaos And Disorder".".

well i guess i'm lucky enough to not be dependant on public opinion for my listening pleasure. With all the drivel that dominates the charts nowadays i'd be seriously worried to find P there.. it'd mean that people either suddenly got some taste. or that P lost his... lol

IMO...

1.Keep on doing what he does best and record whenever and wherever he wants

2. Keep crankin' out music even if its mediocre by his standards its far better than the crap we hear on the radio now

3.Produce, arrange, compose his own material rather than some wanna-be's like Pharell whos "sound" is already wearing (this applys to u 2 Timba!)

4.Continue to find new talented musicians to work with and collaborate with

5. see above...

I hate to tell you this peeps but Prince always has been and always will be about what he wants to do and on his terms and I for one endorse his commitment to the brilliant sound he's created and his vision regardless of how well it does to keep him relevant - trust me in the annals of time Prince Rogers Nelson will always be relevant!

LOL....I love how folks start screaming the sky is falling after reading a review that wasn't even overtly negative...

I'm listening to Planet Earth now...(sorry folks...my copy is watermarked...can't give it out just yet...) And I can tell you that oldschool Prince heads who are more into his rock side will dig this album...To me its much more loose than his previous efforts...The only true clunker is Mr. Goodnight...I will be back for a more complete review....But to all of you guys who are worrying, there are some strong tracks on this album that will put a smile on your face...He even has two slow cuts on here that more than do the job...But more importantly, the old man sounds like he's just flowing again with the guitar and the grooves....More later...

Dude, don't worry about it. I am a 48-year-old whitebread all-American banker. There is NOTHING better than seeing peoples' reaction when I bring up Prince. I look about as far away from a Prince fan as possible.

And you know what? EVERYONE says Prince is cool. Now, my peer group might be a little older than yours, but they don't laugh.

And dude - I'm in Houston, same as you!

That's funny, because when someone passes me in a car listening to some hip hop, rap, or some hardcore rock i hear on fuse, i start to laugh.

Why don't you WAIT until the cd comes out and you can ACTUALLY LISTEN to it and MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND rather than talking smack based upon a few reviews. Some of you guys on the org are really ridiculous and I can see why P seems to have to lay the smack down on some of the "fans" every once in a while. And you want him to get a "Young Producer???" Gimme a fucking break...these young producers only know how to work a fucking computer and sample MUSICIANS. Everything they know they learned from P only they only learned a few little gimmicks, they don't understand shit cuz they aren't musicians, they need to go back to school and pick up this ancient artifact known as an INSTRUMENT. Maybe then they will start producing better shit. In the meantime, Prince needs to keep doing whatever the hell he feels like it. Some of it will be awesome and some of it won't but he has earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants with his music. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but please don't be so ignorant as to suggest that some shithead like Pharrell can do anything for Prince other than mop the floors at the studio.

You make me SO glad that I've got a positive outlook on life and see Prince's music as just a small, albeit wonderfully satisfying part of it.

I just love the Prince ride. We get new music from him far more frequently than just about any other major artist. Sometimes I'm disappointed with his output, but ultimately I come to love it all, even if some of it is less inspiring to me.
I don't know what Prince could do to ever make you happy, but I don't really care. There's a new Prince album coming out next month and I'm excited about it. If nobody else is, then that's their problem and if those people are still posting on this site about him, then they're clearly masochists who love inflicting pain on themselves and desperately want other fans to know how stupid and wrong we are for still loving his output.

Fuck it, call me a fam but I love the guy's work. All of it.

Goodnight...I will be back for a more complete review....But to all of you guys who are worrying, there are some strong tracks on this album that will put a smile on your face...He even has two slow cuts on here that more than do the job...But more importantly, the old man sounds like he's just flowing again with the guitar and the grooves....More later...

yeah I'd love a review please.

I totally agree with you. Some of his albums I'm not too fond of, but he releases soooo much music that whenever I get tired of his great albums, I go back and check out some of the ones that didn't quite do much for me and I usually end up enjoying them much more than I did when I first heard them. A lot of artists release a new album every 3 or 4 years...sure that might make it easier for all their albums to ONLY have good stuff, but Prince is constantly giving us music and that's a wonderful thing...he's a musical genius and there is just too much music pouring out of the guy, he's too prolific to conform to the standards of one new album every 3 or 4 years.

i take great pleasure, in knowing how much Prince will never care about how much you continue to torment yourself on what he should do next. biggrin

Santana got a producer and look what happened.
What happened?

I too have PE, me and everyone from my listening party, around 15, is feeling the CD, some like this... some like that. Go figure!

If you don't like it, don't buy it, but please don't be so ignorant as to suggest that some shithead like Pharrell can do anything for Prince other than mop the floors at the studio.

right on!
