Once of his best songs definately. Just listened to this today and it blew me away. Such Raw Emotion, beats The Dance any day! Top Five Prince Albums

It is definetly my favorite, as I look at all of Prince's videos thru the years and hear all of his songs nothing touches me like when I hear that intro music, gives me chills.  | |

I've passed through my hatred/boredom of the song to a respect/awe for it again. Purple Rain was and still is a great song. Not his best, but perfectly captured the essence of the movie and soundtrack. It is an American anthem now and still holds its place in American culture. P can still bring the house down with it live. I think a lot of the songs on Purple Rain have suffered a backlash in P's fan community because of their mainstream popularity... The songs were genius but I'm just tired of hearing them. | |

Listen I don't know about best or worst but Purple Rain is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.
On opening night 1984 one of the life changing events in my life was seeing 400 people crying and swaying to Prince playing Purple Rain. My grandmother who was 68 years old sung Purple Rain until the day she died in 1992. It was one of her favorite songs. |
