Prince needs to release "The Best of U"

I was watching Live Earth all day today and when I saw the Foo Fighters do "Best of You" (they did a great performance) I couldn't help but remember P.'s version.

He really needs to release his own version of "All Along The Watchtower/Best Of U" because that is a career defining moment. It was such an incredible performance, especially the "Best Of U" part was just perfect. It's funny cuz he didn't write the song but to me his performance of that song was EVERYTHING I want out of a Prince song, it just completely blew me away.

In fact, why hasn't the live SuperBowl version been officially released on ITunes or something? It doesn't seem right...that live performance was so incredible that I'm not sure if he could match the intensity of that performance with a studio recording of it. I hope that the speculated internet links of Planet Earth include some "Best Of U." That would really make my day. cool

I fucking wet myself when He started in on "Along Along The Watchtower" and you could hear the crowd cheering him, then when he ripped into "Best of You" I think I grew a pussy that night, just so his hard driving licks could stroke it.

the studio version played on the Howard Stern show was about as good as the live version, i thought. i'm surprised it hasn't been put up at iTunes or 3121 too. it exists. there's not much else he's ever going to do with it, and we know it exists, so why not put it out there?

I like the FooF's and that song IS theirs, but Prince did a better job of it. I would have used the opportunity of Live Earth to reclaim my song too, but it almost felt like that's what they were doing...like they were trying too hard.

It might just be Prince's song now. It's funny that he would play it with All Along the Watchtower, maybe he knew that he would have this song the way that Dylan handed Watchtower to Jimi.

Didn't the Foo Fighters dedicate that song to Prince during their peformance on Live Earth?

Dave Grohl went something like: "I want to dedicate this song to "U know who""

I sure would be interested in hearing the complete studio version that was given to Howard.

Howard plays a lot of music during breaks and stuff. We should call him and ask him to play the whole thing sometime.

I think it is just a great song no matter if its the Foo's or Prince rockin' it. They feel totally different to me and dig the fact that Prince covered Dave after all these years of Dave covering Prince.

It's also very cool to me that Prince must dig the Foo's.

I still hope that Prince will one day bring a real heavy rocker.

I guess I'll have to YouTube because I didn't tape any of it. The hair thing was good but there was something about the screaming...it was a teeny bit too much. Like it broke the barrier between intensity and...

oh nevermind. Don't want to seem as if I'm slamming a guy doing his own song.
I like them and the song and I usually like an original more but in this case, I prefer Prince's version.

And it has nothing to do with whether he's a fan of Prince, I'm sure they're fans of each other.

Immediately after the Superbowl, I found the MP3 to the entire Supebowl performance at a non-file sharing website. I listen to it daily, and the whole image of him shredding the guitar in the rain brings back great memories.smile

You have to be creative when searching for the track, that's all.
