ooooh, good one. best one i've seen mentioned yet, either way.

I think he could really make it work with a "Wild is the Wind" or "Bring Me The Disco King" kinda arrangement and some world-weary vocals.

i dunno, Prince and Bowie are kinda from different planets. I'm not sure that merging them would work

i mean, can u imagine Bowie doing a Prince song? "Kiss", for instance, lol

One Bowie song that Prince could actually redeem is "Never Let Me Down." Imagine him singing that as a breezy, mid-tempo, in his falsetto.... would be nice.

i think it would be easier for prince to cover bowie than vice versa. it's difficult for anyone to cover prince, because his prince-bonics sound so silly coming out of anyone else's mouth unless they're part of the high heeled purple boot camp. MAYBE bowie could do justice to "nothing compares 2 u"? but i doubt it...

i can hear bowie doing moonbeam levels.

i can hear prince doing suffragette city

Prince and David Bowie are really different; i like the music of Bowie but i don't think Prince could make a convincing attempt playing a Bowie song; plus a lot of Bowie songs are from a really different universe, more drugs oriented (i don't think Prince ever has been a drug addict), the Bowie songs like 'Space Oddity' 'Ashes to ashes' 'Sound and Vision' and whatever else reflect a drug influence that doesn't appear in the Prince's songs.

i was gonna say that i see more of little richard's androgyny in prince, but then i remembered that david bowie is a HUGE little richard fan, so i guess they got their liquid eyeliner from the same well of inspiration. biggrin

Ha-ha, that's hilarious! biggrin

to the average unknowing outsider, Bob George, superfunkycalifragisexy, Eye No, Joy in Repetition, Splash, All My Dreams, Rebirth of the Flesh, speak volumes of drug use.

I remember playing Bob George for a "white" rocker friend of mine who likes nine inch nails, and he looked spooked and said "that" was a result of major drugs.

It's true to my ears as well, Prince's use of sound at times (3121 the song is a recent example) sound more surreal and remarkable than many other artists.

It's one of the reasons I am drawn to listen to his shit. Was just listening to The Line and Cookie Jar...

One of my all time faves is The Ball. That is like spying on an LSD trip from bouncy funk planet Jupiter.

I can perfectly understand the question as I too find both Bowie and Prince similar in many ways in terms of their originality, quirkiness, amazing lyrics etc.

My choice for P to cover would be "Rock N Roll Suicide" - i can really picture him doing this live a-la-Lets Go Crazy ..."Give me your hands! Coz youre not alone"...

Would be amazing i'm sure... biggrin

what an odd statement. the man has been playing covers for his entire career. hell, half his setlist for the last year has been covers, hasn't it?

Prince owes a lot image-wise to the boys of Glam Rock, and they in turn owe a lot to Little Richard and theatre.

It would've been a lot harder to convince the general public to (sort of) accept a man in lace and false lashes if Bowie et al. hadn't done it first.
