Prince/Rick James!! long read.

Did ya'll read this?

Rick James Words

"While on the road, I never saw Prince hang out with black men or black women. In fact, his demeanor was like that of a short uppity white boy."

Bitter Rivals:

In the 80's, Rick James asked Prince to open up the "Fire Up Tour." James states in his book, "The Confessions Of Rick James, Memoirs Of A Super Freak," that he had yet to meet Prince. The only thing he had heard about him was that he was shy. James had hoped this was false because if he was shy, he had no business being out on the road with him.

James said he walked through the backstage entrance, Prince was sitting on his group's drums playing some bullSHYT beat. James sat down and began playing some serious stuff. He said Prince looked over at him and got his little AZZ up and walked away.

James adds, "Prince was just starting out and the first time I saw Prince and his band open for me, I felt sorry for him. Here's this little dude wearing high heels, standing there in a trench coat. Then at the end of the set, he'd take off his trench coat and he'd be wearing little girl's bloomers. The guys in the audience booed him to death."
The following weeks of the tour weren't very different from the opening date. Whenever I was on stage I'd see Prince on the side of the stage just staring and watching everything I did, like a kid in school.

One day I walked into the auditorium, getting ready to go on and I heard the crowd chanting loudly. I went to check it out. Here's Prince doing my chants. Not only was he stalking the stage like me, he was doing my trademark funk sign, flipping the microphone and everything. The boy had stolen my whole show. I was *!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&*ed and so was my band. This went on night after night, every show I'd see more of my routine. It got to the point I couldn't do the stuff I had always done because Prince was doing it before I came on. It started to look like I was copying him.

Everyone knew what was happening, his management, my management. The atmosphere backstage was not improved by the fact that Prince's band members were not on good terms with my band and my guys wanted to kick their *!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&*es. Prince's musicians would stick their noses in the air and not even acknowledge the Stone City Band, even if they were all standing together, waiting for the elevator. Prince's group was a bunch of egotistical AZZholes who never even played on a record. The kid did it all, they were just hired players.

One day, things blew up and management called a meeting. I told Prince's manager, that if Prince did any more of my show he was off the tour. Finally, we all met in Prince's room, Prince, me and our bands. Prince's band was afraid, very afraid. Prince sat on the bed and hardly said a word. He acted like a little BYTCH while his band and mine patched up our differences.

Soon after this episode. There was a birthday party for me. Prince came, he was sitting at a table with some people not drinking. I walked up to him, grabbed him by the back of the hair and poured cognac down his throat. He spit it out like a little BYTCH and I laughed and walked away. I loved fukking with him like that.

I always felt our competition was healthy, although I was jealous when he started getting big, more than jealous, I was *!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&*ed, because here was this little short ego'd out fukker who I had a feeling didn't like people of his own race and wanted to be white and taller. While on the road, I never saw Prince hang out with black men or black women. In fact, his demeanor was like that of a short uppity white boy.

A few years later when James was performing at the Universal Amphitheater. The second night of the show, Rod Stewart and his wife Alana came to the show. James decided to have them sit in front row seats that belonged to Prince.

From the stage, I could see Prince's attempt to throw Rod and Alana out of the seats. Alana told Prince to kiss her *!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&*. Then, during a performance with the Mary Jane Girls, James saw Prince being carried around the venue in his bodyguard's arms just to get attention.

After the show, when Prince saw Rick and Rod backstage, he jumped over the stairs and fled. Allegedly, Rod told Rick, "I hate that little prikk." Rick was *!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&*ed and called Prince all kinds of little *!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&**!@$%&*es. Rick said, "Had Prince not jumped over the stairs and ran, I swear I would have kicked his AZZ."

James heard later that Prince went to see Michael Jackson's concert and tried to disrupt it. When Michael allegedly found out that Prince was in the house, he came out badder than ever and Prince left the show before it was over. lol.....

Rick adds, "I always thought of Prince as a great player and a very innovative person but as far as himself as a person, he could use a good ghetto AZZ kicking."

So ya'll ain't got nothing to say? Well here is what Mistermaxx had to say:

i have the Book and he was right about Prince. Prince is a little Azz trick who stole his whole thing from Rick James and also off of Michael Jackson. Prince could play and has talent, but He always came across like he is trying too hard ot impress and He also doesn't come across as a Brother who is truly down. Rick James was always Black with his. Rick told MTV off, called out Motown and the Industry. Rick was a Badd Brother who did everythign Musically that Prince would later get credit for. the Book is called "The Confessions of Rick James. 400 plus pages and alot of Pictures. this is the way a Book is suppose to be. without Rick James then that new Verision wireless Commerical that Prince is in doing the Video for his song"Guitar" then Prince would be working for verizion with a headset on cold calling. Prince ain't never set the record straight about the Influence that Rick James cast over him. Rick James was the Last King of the Funk. Prince is a Lucky Cat. Prince got his Midget Azz ran off the stage by Michael Jackson and Rick James lit a Joint up under his Azz and scared him away. the only reason why Prince really blew up was because he got the white Cross-over. if it wasn't for that then Prince would have ended up with a Ray Parker Jr type of Career. that ain't bad,but that is far from where he ended up.

Quite interesting. I could believe some of that. For the rest of the stuff that he complains about ("THE MAJORITY"), I have one question. Just when did he say these things? Were they during the '80s when he was amidst his beginning period with dabbling around with "The Grandeury Trial and Error" powders? OR, might this have been sometime, post the effects of crack cocaine?

damn everybody is better than prince, even tito if they let you tell it. listen, it's too late in the game to cast stones at a brotha whos LONGEVITY has reached freakish proportions. his unreleased material dwarfs that of micheal and ricks released material combined. yes, he can "do" them he is a sublime dirivutive artist, yet they cant fuckin "do" Prince cus aint nobody like him. Rick lost all credibility with me when he started rockin ruffled shirts. The constant references to the mans height is caveman, natural selection bullshit to try to salve the wound to his ego with the realization that prince is a sex symbol and can have any of ricks women (ask vanity). If gettin all fucked up is being a real brotha then i thank prince for being a little "white boy" cus dawg was a real artist and he saw Rick destroying himself. Rick robbed us of his great gift with his excess and he blames prince for staying sober and healthy enough to drop the real bomb?. May he rest in peace but if he were alive i'd say fuck that crackhead.

it's the truth, prince may have fell off but you'll never look at his output and ask yourself what could have been. rick took some shit from us with his lifestyle and his bitterness regarding prince in later years was disgraceful considering he took himself off the board with that crazy shit. prince has frustrated me in the past musically but i never had to worry about him taking himself out of the game by fuckin around with underaged kids LOL. Look when that "midget" as you wanna call him is gone you'll know it. Look at all of these "next princes" that come along and fizzle out after 2 albums. consider the 10 year run starting with dirty mind and ending with diamonds and pearls and then ask yourself "when the fuck is James River ( D'Angelos next Album) coming out?". Wheres the follow up to the miseducation of Lauryn Hill? shouldnt have Andre 3000 produced his "masterpeice" yet?. Man, putting Rick James in the same sentence with prince is like putting Sonny Liston in the same sentence with Ali. Sonny was just a guy everybody "thought" was bad until Ali knocked him the fuck out, Rick is worthy of his little slice of funk history put a mere footnote in the Prince story.

Rick James and his career fizzled after "Street Songs". He had one other big hit with "Cold Blooded" then he had to drag Smokey Robinson out for 1 last hit with "Ebony Eyes". By this time Prince was conquering the world. If anything,Prince's huge popularity shed some light on artists like Rick James. He had his chance to prove something, but he blew it(dig up a copy of "The Flag" by Rick that came out around the time "Parade" did and you'll see who's ripping off who). I like a lot of his material, but to even compare him to Prince is ridiculous. Michael didn't even write half his hits, much less play an instrument or SING LIVE, so flush that down the toilet. George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic is a better comparison. Like Prince they were creating unique soundscapes of funk and rock that hold up to this day.

no just commenting on the tone of what rick james allowed to be put in his book. a lot of my comments address some of what mr.james thought to be truth in his observation of prince. i also hated that rick held on to his distaste for prince so late in life.

Godd post and I can dig what you're saying. I've said similar shit on here in the past. BUT to Rick's credit, P DID bite off of Rick's image, show, the whole 9. And that is some bitch shit in my book. And that's P like a motherfucker to do it on the same tour as Rick. P knew that shit would look like Rick was biting off of P when it was the other way around. There was many elements about P, especially when it came to dealing with others, that left a lot to be desired. I can see why P ended up get a bodyguard, cuz I can see P getting jumped by some folks backstage. I've said on here before that P had come off like he was color struck. Came off like he was better than brothers. He couldn't front this shit off with Andre cuz Andre's family took care of P's ass when he literally could have ended up on the street. The shit he ended up doing to Andre is shameful. He has to and will answer for that. He didn't pull that shit with Dez cuz he needed Dez to help him give him confidence with his rock thing. BUT he did pull that shit with Mark. If P was soooo innovative, he wouldn't have stole from Rick like he did. Period. Was Rick a better musician than P? Hell nah. Better songwritter overall? No. But so the fuck what? Man up and come with your own shit. Stop trying to up stage others by having your bodyguard carry your sissy acting ass around the theatre. P couldn't fuck with Michael in his prime with all the guitars in the world and he knew it. P thought cuz he was light and he saw how folks responded to him being light, that he could act the way he did. That's what time THAT shit was. He's lucky that he didn't get fucked up by a few cats from Rick's band. As a band, P's band wouldn't have stood a chance against Rick's band, if they would have threw down. P would have stabbed some cats in the side with his knife and ran away. U can belive that shit. Andre probably would have fared best. Dez wasn't fighting a spider on the wall so...he would have tried to "talk" about it and shit. And Teena would have kicked every girl's ass P had ever fucked with. Jill was probably the toughest girl P had ever worked with. That's why he had problems with her.

damn everybody is better than prince, even tito if they let you tell it. listen, it's too late in the game to cast stones at a brotha whos LONGEVITY has reached freakish proportions. his unreleased material dwarfs that of micheal and ricks released material combined. yes, he can "do" them he is a sublime dirivutive artist, yet they cant fuckin "do" Prince cus aint nobody like him.

And Jill came from Teena.

I can already tell that this thread is gonna get hectic...
I will say this, i had the liberty to meet rick during several recording social functions up at Electric Lady Land studios in the village...
And i will say this , he was one of the realest most down to earth brothers around.
The type of dude who would take you under your wing without even knowing you and look out for you...
But he also like dto party, and if you don't like to party you better leave...
so what was posted is pretty accurate...
And we allll know prince can be a whiny little bitch
so is all this really farfetched?
And rick was doing the androgynous kinky shit alot longer before prince...
So it does make you wonder...
Rick was the type of dude, who kept it real, not a liar...
if he was jealous he'd admit it... just like he said...
so let the bashing commence...

they all are biters, clinton thought rick was a bitch ass biter and the shit is like dominoes.Biting is a form of education in black music, if Jackie Wilson and James Brown were alive they could tell you about little micheal peepin game, so what. wanna know why the longest documentary on BET is "BEEF" ? cus we as a people always got some fuckin beef. Prince blatently ripped off ricks business model but when you look at it historically prince took care of business better. his songwriting ability was such that he could outplay rick at his own game. and the answer to The Time was who? Process and the Doo Rags?. Prince's prowess as a live performer circa 1986-1990 need not even be defended who else can give an audiance everything, guitar solo's dancing, ballads, piano interludes and great music. Micheal is an all time great dancer and singer but the brunt of his show was in his dancing which eventually father time takes from you. prince can still rock a stage and barely do a spin, longevity separates the boys from the men. As for the "fighting" projections man i'm a former boxer and boxing journalist, i get my fighting from ..fighters. i dont give a shit whether prince would have kept stone city from jacking him up. that we have to contemplate the shit is the very reason Rick had no fuckin longevity, he couldnt handle it (success) dude, prince could (and still is) and whether he was redbone or not it really dont matter after that.

as for prince knowing he couldnt fuck with mike, please the black media dubbed him "his royal badness" for a reason. if prince didnt think he could fuck with mike we wouldnt have the ambition of purple rain. remember thriller was still on the charts when PR came out, prince was on some takeover shit and he didnt give a shit if thriller was still hot.
