Wow i wish i could say that im surprised that all this ranting has started already but im not. Its funny on the basis of a few reviews that werent even negative we have already packed it in for this record. Heres the deal people, Prince has a fan base, and THATS WHOS GONNA BUY IT, no one else, get real already, he's 49 years old, hes not gonna pick up new fans with this record, Kids are not just gonna get into him. It'l debut high and then fall like every other record out there, and anything else is up to him, whether there will be singles or videos or a world tour, thats the icing on the cake. I mean really, like JOHN LENNON said when the Beatles broke up and people acting like the world ended, he said "Grow up, its just a rock group, its nothing important, you have the records and memories, enjoy it, its meaningless" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |

Threads like this make me f**kin sick!
I decided to post because why would any one of us go off a review from someone in the press at a listening party????? They don't know what their talking about half of the time. No one never really cares for Prince's music, because they don't know how to take it. He's a great musician, can play anything...has written hundreds if not thousands of hits for himself and others. He's been the talk of the music industry abroad since 2004, When he finally caught the attention of the masses after a on and off high in the past decade. So now were gonna listen to folks who really aren't fans and don't understand prince's complex way of arranging and composing music and lyrics. Why would any one of us say this album is doomed and it hasn't hit the store shelf yet? Prince is amazing, his latest single is hott, much better than that studio demo he released in february, after the hype of the superbowl. Prince tends to amaze his true fans every single time. If he's not doing it right, then who is? Who gets you excited these days? Who can get any record label to back a project whenever he/she wants? Who can demand the respect of an industry he once challenged and talked about so badly, that they have given him chance after chance after chance? Who writes and produces some great music and plays it even better in concert? If Prince can't do it for you...Who will???? If you want Prince's music to sink every time, then maybe you should find some new unsigned starving artist who does it for you! Prince is established and has everything he needs in life, he's Prince for godsakes, he will never write another purple rain or sign of the times record. He will continue growing and putting out great songs, and true enough were not gonna love them all, but we will appreciate the output and we will forever know that he is a great song writer, producer and arranger. He doesn't have to get a pharrell or questlove to produce his music, when have they had a huge hit on their hands like " When doves cry" or "Kiss" or "Cream" or "7". See the diversity in Prince's sound, Pharrell and Questlove could never write songs as such. He doesn't need them to do him any favors for radio or chart sakes. He will debut HIGH, he will SELL his Music to the record buying public that ENJOYS what he does as an artist! He doesn't have to sell 10 million albums anymore. Because ppl will hear them, how they get them. Internet sites, Satelite Radio, Bootleg Copies, etc. Prince will be heard how he see's fit and if someone doesn't want it, they don't have to buy it! Why do we put so much energy on whether his album will be a hit or not! Prince is already enjoying the success(es) of his deal with Verizon, O2 Arena (21 Sold Out Shows in the UK), He's enjoying the recognition from his peers and fans alike who attend show after show after show! Prince enjoyed the success of Las Vegas 3121, he enjoyed having a number 1 album, getting out there more to perform for those who don't have a clue (can we say American Idol). Know one talked about Taylor Hicks the next day...They all talked about PRINCE! So Planet Earth is already a success with a sold out "Earth Tour", Columbia backing the project by pushing the new single to radio. If they play it or not, he doesn't care. He made the music and we didn't, so all he cares about is putting it out there the right way and allowing those interested to take notice. If not I don't think Prince is losing any sleep over naysayers or haters. Planet Earth is an album I'm expecting, it will be played in my car and home, probably at work (lol). Ppl will hear it regardless and if they like it...I'll tell em...go buy it! I just love the Prince ride. We get new music from him far more frequently than just about any other major artist.
