Do you remember what the early fan reviews of TRC were like coming from the listening sessions at the 2001 Celebration? If not, let me remind you that the album was repeatedly labeled "a disaster," "unlistenable" and "the worst thing Prince has ever recorded." The online Prince community was in complete meltdown.

Of course, today, a sizable number of fans say TRC is among Prince's very best work and it's all over those "what are your favorite P albums" threads. The moral of this story: wait to hear "Planet Earth" for yourself — and then listen to it a few times — before drawing any conclusions about its merits.

Peace.

PS: I'm also reminded of Kurt Loder's review of "Purple Rain" in Rolling Stone, in which he commented that the album probably wouldn't match the commercial impact of "1999." lol

there it is right there. i want to hear this cd and judge for myself. i can't wait to have this cd in my hands. i'm desperate for some new Prince shit y'all!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'm just glad to finally have some real info from people who have actually heard the songs thanks to Sarkozy...I wasn't feeling all the speculation and the silly, cryptic clues. biggrin

Like you, I'm looking forward to it even more now...when it comes to Prince I usually love what everybody else dislikes anyway.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Yeah, I thought the first version worked way better. There's no conflict in the song, so the "go to hell" line is out of place, IMHO.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm curious to hear this Chelsea Rodgers song now...and All the Midnights in the World his worst ever? Worse than Wedding Feast? Or Arms of Orion? Or Jughead? If it's true then, damn, that's bad. I find it hard to believe, but I guess we'll see. I would have liked to read about more "funk," but overall the album sounds solid.

I'd like to know about the opening lyrics of the first song. If it's not "dance - the dance electric", I'd like to see Graycap23s excuse this time.

Gaycrap has to apologize and to beg the mods here not to be banned for ever ever EVAAAAA !

lol

Yeah, like that will ever happen. I can hear his "excuses" now...I'm guessing it's because Prince changed his mind or we misunderstood that Gray didn't really mean Prince actually said those words but we were '2 blind 2 c the writing on the WALL.' blahblah

Whatever, he's only helping to put more nails in his "reliability" coffin, which is fine by me.

My trepidation over the title "Future Baby Mama" just got upped to an expectation of flat out hatred with the comparison to "Call My Name". sad

I have a feeling I'm not going to like this as much as 3121 (which I like a lot) or Musicology (which is merely decent). We'll see.

I have a feeling it will be better. It's a rock record with more of a live band sound.

I think it's going to be looser and weirder than recent efforts.

I hope so. The title track sounds like it's going to be my favorite. It does sound like Wendy and Lisa are wasted on this album, though. sad

I saw. Over half of the songs performed were covers! The only ones that got me excited were "Girl", "Elephants and Flowers" and "1999". Great that Wendy was so featured, though!

here's one I babelfished:

Posted it: June 25, 2007 13:32 Subject of the message:

-----

I advise has all those which are sometimes let influence by criticisms not to read us. Because I am afraid
This morning has 10h30 Sony organized a first session of listening of Planet Earth.
The regulators of this forum were invited, we will try to deliver our impressions to you.

Approximately 25 people were. Journalists (Alain Orlandini, Fred Goaty etc.), some well introduced fans, and your modest servants.

Here my impressions they engage only me, knowing that I am not a journalist, and that it is never obvious to deliver a final opinion after one only listening (finally only attentive) of a new Prince.

First of all in a general way.
Fears of each one are for the majority unfortunately founded.
Planet Earth is not the copy of 3121, it is the good news.
On the other hand it is not new Purple Rain, and even less the chief of work of Prince who will nail the nozzle of everyone.

This album is an album directed pop/rock. Only one title "funk".
As a whole it sounds rather live, Prince having given up the so much criticized production a little lately, as well as the doubtful effects on the voice.
Ca remains a rather traditional disc. The largest defect for me remains "mélodiquement". Nothing remains at the head, nothing is not very orginal on the level of the writing. Same in 3121 of the titles like the Word, or the dance had some lucky finds, the EC is not the case. For me, and. I insist, because an album of Prince is tasted, is listened and D-listening.

One speaks often here about what Prince "thinks". Sincerely I challenges whoever of knowing what it has at the head when it decides to leave such a disc. That Ci is not really addressed to the fans, and I am not persuaded that it arrives has to federate new public around this opus.

As a whole there are titles which will take another dimension on scene if it plays them, but it is a commonplace I know .

The conditions of listenings are generally good at these sessions. Same if the enclosures were not perfect Ca remains when same better than a PC with mp3. I say that because that influences sometimes our approach at the time of the first listening, and to be sincere I was more excited at the time of the listening of 3121, same if I listened to this disc rather little then. At the exit of 3121 I had hate to find certain pieces, and I must acknowledge that I can without concern of waiting a few weeks.

I am very sad to make a "carryforward" in half dyed. If this album is neither a catastrophe, nor dead loss, it is not very exciting. Prince is a genius, there is thus a work overall quality. I want it réécouter to see how this disc behaves after several listenings. But to have taken part has the pre listening of TRC and 3121, I am has 10 000 km of what I could feel has this time.

There is a thing which continues to excite me, it is to see how the discography of Prince is built with the wire of time. And still the this disc will have surely a place particuliere in a few times. But you will say to me that Chaos and Disorder has also a place particuliere, and you etes many A to find it inaudible

In short the total tendency of this album is thus pop/rock and tempo lent/ballade.

01- Planet Earth
The title of the album. I want to say by there that Prince begins with a piece "peplum". Intro with the piano/voix, then large rise, solo of guitar, Prince who even answers themselves him, with his superimposed voice several times as it can make so well. Small change of tempo in the medium. In short it does not attack with a large funk, or a title which moves. More carefully. Way 3 chains O gold (without the homage queen has). Ca sounds rather live.
Indeed Prince tries to make a "headline" kind Purple Rain. Not badly

02- Guitar
One connait. With the sound I appreciated... more than my mp3 any dish
Frankly, and that will strike you, one of the best titles of the album

03- Somewhere Here One Earth
Pure princely ballade. Tablecloths of synthés, piano, trumpet (?)
Standard. Rather cool. Not really in the spirit of "one the couch" or "satisfied". One thinks has power fantastic but much less inspired. Ca leans more towards "gotta broken heart again" live. Jazzy spirit with solo of piano (Renato? ). Not the thunderbolt for me which likes the ballades of Prince so much. No shame either. Final with a beautiful vocal descent of the artist. The piece begins and finished in a worn noise of vinyl...

04- The One You Wanna C
Still not of funk
Titrate pop/rock very. The originality lies in the low one very ahead. Ca sounds always rather live. One starts has to feel a little more the group to express itself (if Prince did not do everything only). Josh ahead thus.
Not simple to compare this song (not useful either) but one is closer to sonorities has the gotta stop, than Fury. Mélodiquement it is average. There must be a public for that. Ca sounds really Prince 80s, and the solo of end is puffed out by the piece which finishes, like Guitar besides. I do not include/understand why but good.

05- Future Mama Baby
One is in the medium of the album and one starts has déchanter
Ballade has C Me baby. But Do me baby exists. Thus why?
Ca sounds a little live (I know that that interests of people for this reason I insist). Still mélodiquement I have the impression to have heard it 1000 times. damage

06- Mr. Goodnight
Mid tempo. Accent soul.
It rap way 18 and over more than it does not sing.

07- All The Midnight In the World
Still intro with the Piano
Still a ballade
But the EC is too much. This title will join for much the list of the "worse titles ever written by Prince". A trick of the eurovision would be said. Everyone is looked at. Nobody believes in it. Chak rises same to go to eat is to say.
Fortunately it is a title runs.

08- Chelsea Rodgers
Forcing anything after resembles has a chief of work. The only title funk/ Dance floor of the album. Fine spirit 70' S, the voice of Shelby (or Chelsea? ) ultra ahead. Short the solo of coppers are connected. Into live that is likely to be a great moment of festival. One finds for a short moment the smile...

09- Lion Of Judah
Pop standard song. In the line of Dolphin. One finds a little sonorities "live" of all the disc. Still, for me, mélodiquement I will be unable to say to you has what Ca resembles. no melody of this disc does not remain me in tete.. Separately the first can be.

10 REvelation
And well the funk will not be with the festival in "Planet Earth". Since it ends in a quite average trick pop/rock.
For an album which was to put a snap has all, it does not finish in apotheosis. Good presence of Cora has the battery. In short I want almost to say "without interest" so much I will repeat what I already said several times in top.

It east finishes.
The person in charge starts again the disc, and of a blow the first title appears to us to be a chief of work so much this disc finishes badly.

Are Wendy and LISA? Can Ben be but or? No moment one smells their contribution so really they are.

Thus veiled.
A disc of Prince remains a good disc. Yes it is the fan who speaks.
That, to take again the comments which one reads often here, does not innovate, is not original, does not invent anything. It eloigne of 3121 and Musicology, even if "has days Million" could have formed part of Planet Earth.
I think that Prince will be able to give a more interesting dimension has certain pieces on scene.

I await the comment of the others.
And of the réécouter, for, can be, to be pleased to mislead me completely.

PS: fortunately that you did not want to make the race calhoun
ps2: I have just read the good chronicle of Calhoun. And it is amusing to see that our approaches are completely different. Because for me this disc is much softer than 3121. As what nothing will be worth your propore opinion
ps3:les comments of the majority of people low was much more negative to it and violent one that the notres
