Yep, those were the days...

I remember getting hooked on Purple Rain, and then I bought the double vinyl 1999 next. As a at that time 13 year old German, I had never heard anything like this before - it totally blew my mind. And man, my feet still can't stand still listening to the likes of DMSR, Let's Pretend We're Married, Lady Cab Driver...still all time favourite songs...

This album is absolutely monstrous. Easily my favorite album of all time, and hugely responsible for becoming a big fan of music in general, not just Prince's music! It takes me on an irresistible voyage every time

one of my alltime favorite records...just a masterpeice

1999 & Little Red Corvette - Pop master peices

Autmatic, All the Critics, Something in the Water - crazy new wave funk workouts that he was never able to match

DMSR, Lady Cab Driver - RB classics

International Lover - welcome to my bedroom steaminess

Just an unbelievable effort

Here is a great fucking example of how using instruments that aren't classified as "real" are used to his advantage.. everything has a sound that can only be classified as the 1999 album.. the shit he does now could be found on some usher cd... i enjoy the sound of this album, there is nothing on this planet earth like it..

1999 is my second favorite album Prince ever recorded! The production on that album is timeless because it has that cold, mechanical and industrial style and the stuff Prince talks about here is still relevant today as it was back in the Reagan era. This was the album that really got me hooked on Prince and the Minneapolis sound. The whole album still puts me in awe today...

I was a big fan before it was released but 1999 turned me into a stan.

It's my favorite Prince album. It's a masterpiece.

I'm always baffled when I hear people complain about the lengths of some of the songs like Automatic and DMSR. confused

'1999' is the album that did it 4 me... i was 16.

I went 2 the record store and got every thing he did previous 2 that... 'Controversy' got nearly as much play... Then I got every record and 12" after '1999'. U see... I was actually around then.

I can't even start about this album... 2 many great songs.

AUTOMATIC, Lady Cab Driver, Something in the Water..., D.M.S.R., etc, etc,

The Foefur "remaster" is off the hook... listening 2 it right now.

I've always said this about 1999 - any of the songs could have been singles.

There's really no "album cuts" in the traditional vein, except maybe International Lover. Plays like a greatest hits album.

If a casual Prince fan only knows the singles (which were great), they are missing out on another whole set of songs that are equally good or better.

I see that so many artists' back catalogs are getting remastered and updated with bonus material in an effort to get fans to buy more (Pavement, Weezer's first album, the Cure, just to name a few, and many, many others).

WB really needs to start doing this.

1999 remastered with a bonus disc of extended versions (such as Little Red Corvette), demos, and B-sides. My wallet would be out in a heartbeat.

it was seeing the LRC video on UK TV for the 1st time that did it for me. Nice to see that no matter how many threads are created on this album there's still love shown for it.

Automatic, Lady, Something In the Water....dude I played this albumn over and over and over and over and over

The breadth and overall quality of the material between 1999 and Lovesexy is staggering. But it was this album that set it off for me. Its is every bit as good as Purple Rain, Sign, Parade just different

I also recently had a "rediscovering" binge with 1999. Took me like a week to play something else. nod

I am also one of those who became a fan due to 1999- that's what got my attention and had me primed for Purple Rain.
