Give me afew good reasons 2 actually BUY Planet Earth..

I can only come up with 1.. The 1 U Wanna C. shrug
I'm not that big on Prince's cover art anymore, a steady decline over the years.
Most of the music I play now is in digital 4mat, b it in the car, portable etc.
My 'collection' days r over. I may finally have more sense than dollars. giggle
Given that the album will b given away FREE in the UK, and will soon after flood the internet, and b truly free! (Apparently Prince only wants 2 'free' the music 2 them, and not @ his cost..) lol
I dunno.. Perhaps I could buy it 4 old timers sake, but I'm not so sold. confused

The only reason I can think of is that it makes New Power Soul and Rave seem not quite so bad after all.

I think there's only one REAL reason you should buy this CD based on the points you've made in your initial post. And, that is, you owe it to the artist...period! I mean, you wouldn't go into Denny's...eat your meal...and then leave without paying the check, would you? What you've done by listening to "PE" before it's release is akin to eating off someone else's plate while you're waiting for the waitor to bring yours. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with sampling the food, but ultimately you're obligated to pay what's owed. It's only fair.

I've listened to "PE" early as well. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to it as I type this. I can tell you this though, I WILL be going to my local record shop bright and early on the 24th to pay my check. You should to...'

Just my 2 cents.

What 'planet' r u on man? lol
I owe the artist nothing. I'm not obliged 2 pay 4 anything by Prince or any other artist simply because I've sampled their 'art', or simply because they've released it. I can walk in2 almost any record store now,put on a set of headphones and spend all day, days even, listening 2 new release CDs from start 2 finish. Based on ur mentality, I'm obliged 2 buy each and every 1?! Get real man.
Tecnology now allows us 2 sample (try b4 u buy) stuff from the comfort of our own homes..and reduces impulse sales, 4 some at least.
Stop this psychological, guilt trip BS, it doesn't quite cut it with me.
You got a good reason or not?

Don't get me wrong, if I knew I'd b listening 2 the album as a whole on a regular basis, I would b 1st in line 2 buy it.
I have N.E.W.S, Musicology, Rainbow Children, 3121, 2 copies of some in fact, and have sampled each n every 1 of those on the internet b4 it's local release.. thing is, I knew after the 1ST LISTEN that this was an album worthy of owning/paying 4.
I'm not so sure about this 1...but hey, if I have another listen, some of y'all may want me 2 buy it TWICE! falloff

This is not really true. I listen to plenty or artists that I then delete...and I don't buy. There are a few that I always buy, even if I'm so-so with the product. A reason to buy this is because it's good. Even if it sucked, though, it just may go down as a pivotal piece of music history. It just may stand as the marker that changed the way people look at and handle music. That reason alone is one to purchase. If I were the collector type, I'd save it and the receipt I paid for the "CD Prince gave away". But the reason I give is because it's good.

That was my point christos7! As I said, there's nothing wrong with sampling one's art. Hell, we ALL do it on occassion. What I was trying to say was that if you were enjoying the art on a regular basis (meaning if you had access to it outside of the normal sampling channels), you would ultimately owe it to the artist to pay for their services.

At the end of the day, P's music is considered "product". And, products in most cases require some kind of payment. You don't get it for free...regardless of your justification is.

I think you'll find yourself enjoying the CD after each listen. I have no doubt you'll do what's right!

Oh, and to answer your initial question...I'm from PLANET EARTH!! wink

To listen to it is something different than to own it. If you buy it, you own it. If you download it, you own it without paying for it (unless it's a legal download of course). If you listen to it in a record store, or on the radio, or in a supermarket, of course you don't have to pay for it, cause it's not yours.
I admit i do it: i download, i like what i hear, i keep it and i don't always buy it. It's stupid! I try to better myself.

Buy it because you just might eventually like it. More often than not, the best albums are the ones that do little for you on first listen.
Oh, and if you buy it legitimately and in perfect quality, it gives you 100% carte blanche to say it's the worst Prince album to date and people can't tell you that you don't like it because of the sound quality etc. and they can't criticise you for not buying it legitimately.

But I bet she doesn't let you eat the entire sandwich, and then decide either...

Like I said, there's nothing wrong with sampling those 30 second clips of the contents of an album, and then deciding if you want to buy it. Or, even listening to full lenghts songs at your local record store via those headphoned stations. But, to grab a CD's worth of music from the internet...illegally and without paying for it...is akin to stealing, and is wrong. But, if you're going to do it (as I have before), I feel you're obligated to pay for it when it becomes available legally (in your record store). That's the only point I'm trying to make here...

I do to man! And trust me...even $$ for a CD is difficult to come by when you're trying to squeeze a dollar out of a dime. But, the man has provided a personal soundtrack to soooo many good times in my life, I feel I owe him for that! If it was some other artist, my argument wouldn't be as passionate as it is. But, with P, I have to go all out. I'm sure you can understand...wink

Yeah, and, erm, inserting the CD into your pc gives you 247 unreleased 1980s Prince songs in perfect, 320kps mp3 quality.
Plus, everybody who buys Prince's new album who fills in a simple form is guaranteed to be given a four-bedroomed house in either Florida or Bali (buyers choice) and free flights for life back and to to their house).
Oh, and the CD has seen the future and knows every lottery result in every country (that does lotteries) for the next five years.

Surely those reasons alone are enough to make you want to buy the album?
