I could be the only one here that thinks so but I have always really liked 'Free'

You're not. I adore "Free" and everything else that is associated with this album. 1999 is my blood.

It blows my mind that it's almost 25 years old. I really wish he paid that album the respect it deserved during the year 1999 because it is so worthy of celebrating.
Free is a song that needs to be sung NOW more than ever. Love love love this record

Can't let this thread pass without saying YES! It's the one that gives me goose bumps thinking about the songs. Start to finish every song, just mesmerising out of this world. It's the album that for me defined what Prince is (or was) all about. I was just obsessed with this album from 1984 (yes 2 yrs wasted I know!) and pretty much still am. The Prince of 1999 through Lovesexy is beyond untouchable! I mean DM and Controversy were phenomenal too BUT at 1999 he just seemed to leave everyone else behind with such ease and arrogance it's still hard to believe.

In addition to the music, it's probably one of his best album covers too, you could really spend time musing over it every time you picked it up. And the recording always sounded pleasing to my ears, bottom heavy, stomping!

Totally agree - goosebumps and all! Just re-discovered 1999 again lately as I have moved into the 21st century and have all my music on an ipod now, that album brings back such amazing memories - It was the soundtrack to my teens, I love Automatic, Something in the water..., lets pretend were married, lady cab driver, all the critics.... love it all! Im going to listen to it right now!!!
