Isnt it weird that....... Two of Princes best albums in the last 12 years are so are so hard to obtain, and are destined to stay obscure?
What i mean? Recently i have downloaded both The Truth and One Nite Alone (the 'piano' album) and personally i think those two albums are so much better then a lot of the 'formulaic' stuff he has released officially, like New Power Soul, Rave and most of the songs on 3121. It almost seems like he doesn't want the general public to getting to know his more personal, emotional material. The same feeling i have about Chaos and Disorder and The Vault by the way. Both albums are no masterpieces, but both Prince and his musicians sound spirited, full of 'playing pleasure' on these albums. What is the reason for his tendency to keeping his more personal, surprising material in the background? Could it be that Prince is worried about the way the general public is perceiving him? Does he feel 'obligated' to deliver the kind of music the public is 'expecting from him'? If so, the mostly negative reviews New Power Soul and Rave did receive, should have ring a bell with him, dont you think? Let me say that i am glad to find out hat Prince still has delivered some great music in the last 12 years, but i really dont understand why has hidden that fact from the public, and why he did decide to promote formualic stuff like New Power Soul and Rave instead (let alone worringly bad internet releases like The Slaughterhouse and The Chocolate invasion). | |
