That song is the closest he's ever come to Clinton's funk. It's an amazing jam. Play it top of your speakers and it takes you to another funkin' place.

cool

Well it should be since it's a straight rip of Parliment/Funkadelic's "Night of the Thumpasaurus People". lol

Out of curiousity, how much is the original Exodus CD worth? I've got 2 copies, and neither cost me very much... but I've seen them selling for 20-40 bucks online. Is this increasing as time goes by, or is it set to go down?

PS. Excellent album. Definitely the NPG's best.

Well, it's a terrible album with one great song on it (2gether) but definately Prince has done worse: Old friends 4 sale.....

Yeah, he's definitely gone for that sound, but 'exodus' is the better tune in my opinion.

What i'd give for Prince to go back to trying to get that dirty Clinton funk.

Unfair I think. Strip the title-track segues away and you're left with an EP's worth of decent stuff.

Oilcan is brilliant - OK it's only 43 seconds long, but still lol

The other instrumental Goldie's Parade is also great. I also have a lot of time for Call The Law and Deuce & 1/4, on a good day, even Black MF -- I guess I like the music, it's not like I listen to GoldNigga for Tony M, but there's the same kinda humour on there as Exodus, and I like the live band and horns sound of the prince era NPG.

Give me Gold Nigga over Rave, Emancipation, Musicology or 3121 any day. nod

Dude's joking, right? wacky

By the way, I LOVE Exodus...especially the vinyl. It's funky as can be. There are few NPG songs as good as 'Bump Squad'....The lyrics are SICK.

I remember seeing them do 'Count The Days' on Top Of The Pops with Prince as Tora Tora, it was so cool and I still think its one of his best songs from that period.

I must say no P.(or affiliates) album polarises me like xodus. Absolutley love Count the Days(a great great song imo) and the Exodus has Begun is totally slammimg.About as perfect as his funk goes. Hallucination Rain is also brilliant. However the rest is distinctly average. Cherry Cherry for example. I thought the back street boys were gonna show up on backing vocals at one point lol....

I always got a kick out of the way they dedicated the album to the memory of Prince (I think they refered to him as his Royal Badness, though. Forget right now).

You're right it does polarise. I don't get Backstreet Boys from Cherry Cherry at all (OK maybe *a little* lol ) - What I hear is a 50's or 60's harmony group kinda sound.... It's almost bordering on Rick James balladry. And the combination of the syrupy music and melody with the darker lyrics bring to mind The Shangri-La's. I love it.

Agreed. This song cannot be beat.

without a doubt. one of the few Prince jams in the last decade that I can play over and over and over.

George Clinton was probably wiping the tears out of his eyes with pride.

Musically, this album has stood the test of time very well. Yes, there are some stinkers like Count the Days and Cherry Cherry, but Get Wild, Return of the Bump Squad and New Power Soul more than make up for that.

Of course, there's Hallucination Rain. What can I say? batting eyes How I'd love to hear this live with Prince on guitar in place of the violin! excited

I'm not crazy about some of the segues, but I love Mashed Potato Girl. I still don't know if Prince can truly act, but he certainly does a credible job of mimicking.

NPS has some good songs, particularly The One and Come On, but it's more plastic to me.

I absolutely LOVE this album!

The band is flat-out great, The production is what TGE should have sounded like. (It's big and has alot going on, but still feels "live". It is loud, angry, funky, and melodic.

"The Exodus Has Begun" is amazing.

I love "Count the Days" but I can hardly play it around friends cause of the F-bombs:)

I agree...I i think that "The Exodus has Begun", Prince felt that it was the best he was gonna get out of that band and why they broke down shortly after...that song can't be topped!...spatch cocks in black gace!....jesus....that song is cahrazeee
