PRINCE's own take on reviews, so true, stop sweating Planet Earth already

Its amazing how a few reporters in a room that probably dont even know Prince, and when i say know Prince, i mean KNOW him, not just 1999 and Purple Rain, because when i see Prince reviews i constantly read about past glories when people are looking at today, its just amazing that some of us are Worried? Why are we worried? To put this in Prince's words lets look back at an interview with him in 1998, it was him and Tavis Smiley, and Tavis was looking at a current review from Vibe and Rolling Stone, and of course it wasnt favorable. Prince said it this way, "Any real musician will tell you the music is a success upon its creation and completition in their eyes, but when you give it to a Rolling Stone or Vibe and then critique it you start to change your view, because you are looking through someone else's eyes" I mean thats it in a nutshell, If you bought a new shirt and U thought it was the SHIT and you wore it and everyone around you thought it was crap, your opinion would change because your letting someone else dictate to you what it is. People it may sound corny but just wait to you listen to the record, like it,love it, hate it, think its ok, whatever form your opinion, dont let a chart tell you, dont let some "suit" in a room tell you what Prince is doing. Shit, every performer gets bad reviews, some of them go whole careers never seeing favorable ones, thats just the way it is, but do you like it? well thats it then.

Its his analogy and sorry but its correct, if we let a review dictate music to us then we are nothing more than a bunch of puppets. How do we not get a choice when buying a Prince record? either you buy it or you dont, you make it seem like he comes to the house and puts a gun to your head and makes you buy his stuff, shit, enough with that, "I dont like it" whining, everyone grow up, you dont want it, dont get it, jesus christ its album, its NOT THAT IMPORTANT!

Okay, starting right now I agree with everyone who says you are an alias created for taking the piss. You have to be...there's no way you can be this dumb. You just can't.

I mean you talk about flawed analogies and then make the most ri-damn-diculous argument possible. Yes, "you had a choice to buy the shirt;" you also had a choice to buy the Prince album. No, "we don't get a choice in what songs [Prince] releases;" we also don't get a choice in what shirts the clothing manufacturer makes and markets. All we can do in either case is inspect what's on offer and decide if it's for us or not. If so, buy it. If not, move on.

Now, having said all that: Who are you really? hmmm

Totally agree with ya LastDecember. I've read countless reviews of cd's by music critics who obviously don't know a damn thing. And "Mirror" if you feel that you don't have a chance to choose the songs on the cd, well nowadays you have plenty of ways to preview every song on a cd before buying it so if you don't like the music you don't need to buy it. As for me, I will buy my copy on 7/24/07!

I wish Prince would come over with a gun
and force me to buy his music. Or better yet I would listen to any JW speech together with any music he wants to deliver.

you do know people can dislike music because of ther own tastes and preferences, regardless of any review, right? I fail to see anyone sayong they dislike the music itself on Planet Earth simply because of the reviews. point that out to me, because I haven't seen it. some people aren't confident in the musicv, but that is entirely different than what you are attempting to make it out to be, that is people disliking the music itself.

your post makes no sense. you want people to make up their own minds regardless of reviews, but your entire post is about trying to dictate how people should make up their own minds. seems like a big contradiction to me. just another example of an insecure rince fan who can't stand the thought of people disliking him. Prince doesn't need you to defend his music.

Dumbass, check right here: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/232229

The album is not even out yet and already there are dumbasses criticizing it based on reviews. I'm pretty sure LastDecember is simply saying that everyone should listen to the cd first before they just go along with whatever a music critic or anyone else for that matter, says!If you have the cd and have actually listened to it and made up your own mind then of course you have the right to say whatever you want but to judge a cd that is not even out yet and that you have not heard is something only a real dumbass would do!

I don't see anyone saying the music is bad. they are speaking in regards to the reviews, that if the reviews are accurate than they are going to be disappointed. that is a completely different dynamic. if you can't tell the difference, than the dumbass is not I.

First of all everyone has passed judgement on something they havent heard yet, they are basing it a few journalists that sat in a room in france and listened to the record, to my count i have heard maybe 2 people on this forum say they have Really heard the album. As for me worrying about PRINCE fans liking him, i could CARE LESS, the more people that dont like him or his music means the less ASSHOLES in front of me at shows. Im not defending Prince either, but hes a musician and guess what he doesnt give a shit if someone doesnt like his record, my point is use your own mind, dont listen to reviews, maybe you'l like it maybe you wont, its a fucking album, stop debating it like its life or death. Jesus, some people 3121 is great others hate it, some love Chaos and Disorder and some dont, some think Emancipation was amazing and some think it was overdone and long, so judge for yourself, dont listen to some moron in an office who says he doesnt like it, its his opinion, if you let THAT change your mind, well thats on you.

trust your own experience of a thing or event, not someone elses doucumented experience. that's all revues are someone trying to make you experience the same thingthey experienced. planet earth will be subject to my review which will determine it's place (or not) on my ipod. will i be bias? yes, it's my ipod and prince is my dude but if theres something i experience to be putrid (LOL) that song will not make the 500 song cut on my ipod. it's very personal and not subject to what anyone else writes.
