Here's yet another thread regarding my favorite Prince album of all time, 1999. This time, the song is "Something In The Water (Does Not Compute). Weird ass song. The weirdest on the album. So keeping in theme with the other two 1999 threads, "Free" and "All The Critics", I'm highlighting where Prince curses in a song and in some form or another, he "shadows" it or "disguises" it. In "Something In The Water" at precisely 2:49, P, says again, the word "Bitch". Just like he does in "All The Critics". Here he "masks" it with putting a hallway echo on the word. To the point where a casual listen, u won't make out what he says.This is the third song that comes from this album where he uses this word. Well, "I. Bitch" doesn't really count since it was a b-side to "Let's Pretend". Now "Let's Pretend" has a gang of cursing, especially towards and at the end. In that song, Prince manages to mention "that he's in love with God" and a serious curse word all in one phrase. Blasphemy in a funk pop song by a black artist was definately something new. That's one thing from P I wasn't and still isn't cool with. Anyway, getting back on track with the song "Something In The Water", has anyone else ever notice where P just blurts out the word "bitch"?

Heck yeah! That's one of the first things I noticed when I first heard it way back when.

This is one of my favorite songs on the album.It's effectively weird and robotic,with a very "cold" sound.I like it!

i remember back in the day, everyone would kinda skip this song cuz it was so weird, but something always made you come back to it- trying to figure out what it all meant, not really wanting your mom to hear you listening to it cuz it sounded so spooky and tripped-out!

This is my favorite song of all time. Those guttural screams echo the sound of a song that seems to be literally ripping apart with the frenetic drum machine, bleeding warm synths and colder synth incisions.
