In honor of Father's Day...

if you would like, spill any special Prince-related memories you had with your dad.

I'd like to give props to my dad because he is ultimately the reason that I'm here.
[you all know the story] About a little more than a year ago, Purple Rain was on VH1. We were flipping through the channels and he said, "stay on it, this is a good movie." I argued that it was already half over so there wasn't any point. I eventually covered. That was all I needed to see him the way I do now.

A musical genius that's very close to the music itself and has dedicated his life to its craft.
On top of the compelling story, I was hooked once I saw the last 10 minutes. My dad burned a CD recently and those two songs were at the end. He said in the movie they were back to back and I saw for myself how I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm A Star really were two parts of the same song.

I waited a year or so to take the extra leap of faith. I think my dad was only a fan of the movie and of Purple Rain Prince. I took that to the next level. Although I rarely get to talk about Prince, its a bit easier to play him around my dad because he understands him, unlike my mom.

Anyway, anyone else have any Father stories relating to Prince?
I'd like to know if anyone else was inspired to check him out for the same reasons I was.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

When Prince first began in the late 70's my Dad use to make
fun of him ALL the time... he called him "Jungle Boy".....
He said he betted that he wouldn't last a year or so...
Well a few years later Prince was on an award show and he
blew the house down and played the guitar like nothing else
we had seen to that date.....
My dad was really floored.. He said he was shocked and saw that
Prince really had ALOT of talent..
Now he comments about what a "nice looking guy" Prince has become
and how much talent he has. smile
Oh.. and by the way.. My dear Mom (who died on Feb. 14th of 07)
was a BIG Prince fan. smile She said he was ADORABLE and
when that "PEOPLE" magazine cover came out years ago (U
know.. the one with him in the Yellow outfit~ close up face
shot) that said "Would you let this Man Date your Daughter"
My mom replied with a smile.. " not unless he dated ME first"
wink
What a great lady she was.....

Thanx. I'm sure this idea's been done before so that's why its not popular (and weekends are slow as it is).
And quite obviously, my dad's favorite Prince song is I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm A Star. I never really asked, but I assume so because that's what he put on that mix CD he did.
He's always had good taste in music and I was kinda raised around MTV in my earliest years. Who knew that one of his loves & mine, football, would eventually lead me back to Prince, who he seems to respect.

I'd also like to toast Prince's dad for raising him with music and leading him to make a career out of it. Without him, I doubt Prince would be here as he is today. cool

it too, was my dad's fault--or should I say something nicer like doing, that I like Prince

My mom was not nearly as much a Prince fan as my dad, and to this day I dont know anyone who knows as much about anyone as my dad knows Prince. My dad is a die-hard fan, so I grew up being the only kid knowing what a vinyl is. Though it wasn't until recently that I've appreciated and understood Prince's genius, Ive been listening to Prince music all my life and it was my father's doing. So I thank him. Very much.

happy father's day
life is but a dream...

Here's a nice one that I'll always cherish.

One time, my dad and I were in this huge screaming match with each other, over me not mowing the lawn before he got home from work. And "Money Don't Matter 2 Night" was playing on my stereo in the background and he yelled something about not doing my work all day while I listened "to that cocksucker!"

Uhm... my dad thought I was gay cause I listen to Prince.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.
