Haystack

On Mariah Carey's Glitter which is at number three;

'Glitter,' the soundtrack to an equally unsuccessful movie, was released on September 11, 2001, and things only got worse from there.

That made me giggle.

To this day, no matter how many times I've pulled Rave out to give it another shot, I get bored of it very quickly and have to put something else on. I love just about every Prince album out there but the sheer blandness and lack of excellence there just turns me off. Just recently, I've been rediscovering Musicology and hearing things in there that I didn't hear before. And I'm starting to really enjoy it. So even that album must have something going for it.

1. I happened to love this album, and was shocked it was chosen over "Chaos and Disorder" which had one good track, or "Around the World in a Day", the major letdown follow-up to "Purple Rain". Maybe you should clean out your ears and listen again??

C&D was widely viewed as filler to get out of his contract so no one was expecting much...

& ATWIAD, while a definite departure from PR, still had "hits" - "Raspberry Sorbet" & "Pop Life"... I know "America" had a video but I can't remember if it was released as a single (I guess it had to be huh? confused )...

P pushed that Rave album like it was gonna be SOMETHING, even named that pay per view special after it. But the album lacked all over. It truly was a bigger bomb that ATWIAD... if that album can even be considered a bomb - I don't think so personally b/c it's a good album, just not as "audience friendly" as PR...

I think calling ATWIAD a letdown is bullshit nod
I mean, I wasn't there when he released Purple Rain and then ATWIAD lol
but Purple Rain was my first Prince album ever touched
and I listened 2 ATWIAD later and I liked it even more than Purple Rain nod

Prince only has about 100,000 core fans, those who will buy anything he releases...so he sold almost 400,000 Rave CD's to those who could care less.

That's not bad folks.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Romeoblu

I think Rave is a decent album that could have a good album.

If it had less tracks and not tried to appeal so much to RnB market.

Its got a number of solid tracks

Rave
Undisputed
TGRES
Tangerine
So Far So pleased
The Sun The moon and the Stars
Man O War
Baby Knows
I Love u but I don't trust u anymore
Strange But True

even on those tracks there are elements which I think could have been removed such as the get rowdy chant on Undisputed, the record scrathes on TGRES and the ragga rap on The sun The moon.

ok, so 480,000 copies isn't a stellar hit, but a flop? lol

Many so-called up-and-coming musical acts that get alot of attention sell about as many copies.
