Well at least no debate about the 1st single of the new album it sucks. Thank god he got rid of the left to right to left to right ear thing. That was dumb as hell.
Too bad he just didn't get rid of the song, which sounds like it was something he sang into a dictaphone while taking a prolonged crap.

hated the original. this version makes for a great single, though. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

I'm quite ho-hum about it. I really, really want to like it, but I just can't. That said, I'm still looking forward to the album, and I know that "Guitar" may grow on me. i think it's a grower. i really like the melody and the guitar work, and i don't think we're really supposed to care much about the lyrics (or at least, i hope not). i think it's been so long since i've LIKED prince's choice (or his labels' choice, whatever) of singles, my mind is just in an automatic mode to at whatever new single he releases. i think after this summer, i'll be more of a fan of the song.

I don't know, most of the comments on Youtube are glowing positive... "this song rocks," "Prince rocks," "this song is his best ever," "this song is beastly." I think you're wrong about this song, it's well done. And we have the demo & the finished studio version. I'm thankful for that. Definately not a "great" Prince song, but certainly a good choice for a single. Of course if he released something a little more obscure everyone would be like "why didn't he release Guitar?"

Black Sweat was a good choice for a single. So Was Fury and Guitar

coming home from work feeling tired, i love playing it in my car very loud, the track just bursts with energy. It's simple, but extremely effective! Good first single i think.

Black Sweat was a good choice for a single. So Was Fury and Guitar fury was good. it should have been the first single. te amo corazon was weak. i have mixed feelings about black sweat, both as a song and as a single.

You people kill me, give me the name of an artist whose every song is a hit and I'll completely stop listening to P. Give the name of any artist who has written, produced and arranged 97% of 25 years worth of music their own music and I'll stop listening to P. The point is that not every song, nor album will be "his best since", nor will it flood radio and the charts, as a matter of fact, how many artists with 25 years in the business do this? Recognize that the younger generation drives record sales and that's why new artists sell more records, they're part of whatever the teenage fad is. 1st and foremost Prince is a musician with a respect for a lot of music that a lot of us don't even listen to...quit trying to hold him to an unattainable standard!

i love the song...but there's something about his vocals that don't work for me...he sounds on autopilot. but that's a minor distraction. Space for sale...

Those comments on Youtube are very positive. My favorite is "He sounds like he might be the new MJ" Is it getting any airplay? I haven't heard it in the UK.

I'd only heard it through naff laptop speakers and thought it was ok,
but just heard it on BBC 6Music and I thought it sounded really, pretty damn good, and it has grown on me. BTW, the DJ (Steve Merchant) and his team all liked it alot.
