coming from someone who's only really listened to Prince's music for 3 nearly solid months, I definitely know what you're talking about.

Musicology & 3121's songs don't really have the same spark and sense of "danger" that his earlier stuff (I know as far as PR really well)... it leaves them unable to hold a torch to everything that came before them... but they both give off a vibe of sophistication and (in Musicology's case) personality... and those are two of the qualities about him that I saw from the start and have really liked about him.
So I really can't complain too much.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

If you need dirt to have fun, maybe that says more about you than his intensity.
Anyway, "dirty" gives a false sense of intense. If you're intense, you can be that way without any of that.
Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

find me a recent song as intense as "Scarlet Pussy"...and that's a B-side song.

I'm a huge Prince fan, I love his music and think he's incomparable. I'm just making a personal observation

Why don't people understand that Prince is NOT trying to go back to that sound? Prince's music is just what he wants it to be, he's not trying to satisfy people who haven't moved on.

Compared to some of the rap lyrics today, Prince never seemed really dirty to me. I do however agree, that the old Prince sounded more raw and energetic than the cleaned up version. But I understand where he's coming from. He is almost 50 and it woudn't be cute or appropriate anymore to use what worked for him at a younger age. He's still trying to be sexy with his lyrics, but now we have to read a lot more between the lines. Sometimes I get sentimental, when I think about how the old Prince would work the stage. The way he expressed himself used to be unbelievably sexy and enticing.

I don't know, ATWIAD, Parade and Sign O The Times don't really have that much in the way of rude lyrics either.
