Prince's catalogue question

Hey there,
I've only fallen hard for Prince in the past six months and have been eager to explore his vast catalogue. I have a few select albums and have heard pretty much the majority of the rest, but I am hesitant in buying his past cds due to the general less than desirable sound mastering of them. I've heard rumors through this board about a possible remastering overhaul of Prince's catalogue but that's only rumor.
So the question is should I start buying or wait? I'll feel burned if somewhere down the line there is indeed a slew of remastered editions out, but on the same token I'm seeing very little in terms of available Prince albums available at my local music stores.

hmmm.....

That is a definite dilemma. Having owned the CDs for several years, I don't regret the purchases because I've really enjoyed them.

However, if the CDs were remastered / re-released immediately after I bought them I would be kinda bummed.

Remastering such a catalogue is costly and takes a lot of time though. It's hard to say if doing such a thing would be worth it for the record company.

I recommend maybe seeing how well Planet Earth does? If it is a hugely succesful commercial adventure (yeah, right), that would increase the chances of reissues, then you might want to hold off on buying.

Tough call.

There is a greater chance of hell freezing over than seeing remasters in the next few years, and i hear the temp is rising in hell.

That being said, a good couple of weeks in the used sections of your local record shops should turn up quite a bit of back catalog, even some out of print stuff, at a reasonable, lower risk, price
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

They will never be remastered until prince's soul leaves his body unfortunately.

Prince could work it out with warners and release his back catalogue for the fans so we can have his best work sounding as good as possible BUT he will not do that.

I think that you should buy them because the possibilities of a remastered version of his catalogue looks far away from the future (anytime soon at least) because of various issues that are not settled between Prince and Warner Bros. Records. Besides even if that day come (the release of his catalogue remastered), I would personally buy both versions of the albums because his body of work is that great and it's worth it.

You think you're seeing little now if you wait they're only gonna get more expensive and rarer, why wait if you really like his music you would want to get things as soon as possible, if you have to repurchase some thing in the future do it, but tomorrow's never a guarantee! I've been a fan for over 26 years and I'm still catching up! smile
