For Real! In The Bible it says that the people put a Purple Robe on Jesus as he was led to the Crucifixion. Why? Because he was known as "King" of The Jews. King associated with Royalty associated with Purple. King = Royalty = Purple. Beautiful

I always thought Purple was the perfect blend of masculine and feminine qualities. But I'm sure Prince has his own reason for identifing with that unique color! [Edited 6/17/07 2:57am]

Q:"were purple and gold your colours in the eighties simply because they represented royalty or did they have a deeper meaning?"

of maybe he just likes the color. Purple is the colour of royalty, but it's also a colour of mourning. Could there be a double meaning for his palette choice? Chew on that. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

[Edited 6/17/07 2:57am] There's a valid theory. Prince has always gone out of his way to make gender lines blend and break. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Chew on that. where is it the color of mourning? i never heard of that. Purple and black were traditonally associated with death, mourning, and loss. It's largely a Victorian thing, but it carries on in literature and artwork. Interesting because, as has already been mentioned, purple is also associated with royalty. Wearing purple as a sign of sadness has fallen to the wayside though, and black is doing the same too. When's the last time you saw a grieving widow don black clothing for the traditional 2 year period? [Edited 6/17/07 16:47pm] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

[Edited 6/17/07 16:47pm] i think now, a respectful mourning time is like 6 months. i heard that somewhere, so don't quote me on that. in Islam, white is a color of mourning. which is funny, b/c in Christianity white represents innocence, purity, etc. "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."
