Musically, it sounds like the theme to a mid-80s dramedy and lyrically it's slightly icky, as it sounds like he's defending underage sex! i love his whole attempt to be girly-grunge in that video, though - with the sleeveless plaid flannel blouse and the little stagedive at the end. oh Christ, I thought I was the only one who thought that when the video first came out I was like, don't Evenflow our asses with that typhoon do, motherfucker!

The ones that top my list:
"The Greatest Romance...": Has grown on me over the years but considering the hype it underwhelemed the general public, leading to a complete abandoning of the album from all involved. "The One": Cor blimey, another damn ballad lead single...Prince paint-by-numbers. "Dinner with Delores": I remember vividly the one time my local radio station played this after days of begging on my part. Too weird for the room. "Betcha By Golly Wow": Okay, there are 36 songs on this album and about 23 better choices for a lead single. "I Hate U": How in the hell did this song make it to number 12 US? An alright track but not a leadoff single from an album as strong as "TGE". "Take Me With U": Okay not as obvious as the others but how the hell was this picked over "Baby I'm a Star" or "The Beautiful Ones". Seriously, Apollonia sounds like she's going thorugh the last stages of appendictis in this. [Edited 6/16/07 20:19pm] All good things they say never last...

Indeed - I actually kinda like the song, but I completely forget it even exists most of the time. Every time I remember that it was a single, my mind is effectively blown. Same deal with The Morning Papers. I really like the track, but it's an odd pick for a single. [Edited 6/16/07 21:47pm] I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Alphabet St. and Thieves were top 10 hits, but they've never had and never will get recurrent radio spins. even when Prince's music is considered "oldies" and played on that radio format, those 2 aren't going to get played. I've heard Alphabet St. on the radio several times since '88. But this is Detroit, so I guess we're not a fair test of typical radio.
