I don't know why or where I heard this, but it always stuck with me. Rumor is that two of Prince's favorite movies are Blade Runner and The Matrix. [Edited 6/12/07 15:01pm] "New Power slide...."

He was actually a fan of "The Idolmaker" too, which inspired him to become a svengali. That's why you had groups like The Time and Vanity 6 and stuff. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

[Edited 6/12/07 15:01pm] I'd love it if I had Blade Runner in common with Prince (it's my fave). I heard the same thing, and also that his use of venetian blinds on the 1999 set was inspired by the film. The timing seems right... can anybody back this up?

I think he mentioned liking The Matrix on a Jay Leno interview...(right around the time of ONA, maybe.)

I heard Barbarella and 9 1/2 Weeks were his favourites back in the 80s.

Prince always loved Marilyn Monroe, so I think it would be one of hers.

I'm sure not even a fraction of the movies he likes could be covered here.
I think he really dug the Godfather saga... or at least 'The Godfather'. "He's a musician's musician..."

I read from DMSR that he got his "control through alter ego" inspiration from this movie:
