you know what? That's a tight little track. I think it could be a "hit" and really expose a lot of casual fans to his guitar skills, which most of his singles really haven't featured so much.

Am i the only one that hears "I Will Follow" by U2?

IMO Prince has haad several "hits" on the 4 of the last 5 albums.
Several problems exists for a Prince revival.

1. He is 49 years old. Middle age men do not appeal to teenagers. The music biz is marketed toward teenagers.

2. Radio formatting. In the 1980's ,You would have to wait about 3 hours before the rotation to be complete. Now it's about 45 minutes. You also have radio more segregated into formats than you had then,IMO.

3.Prince himself. Will he continue to market once the "new" has worn off ?

I love the song and it certainly hs hit potential, but if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around ,does it make sound ???

I like the first version better. It was funkier. This version sounds too simplistic, but is probably better suited for radio airplay.

Really?

To me, this new version beats the living hell out of the original. I think it shows Prince really fleshed this song out when you compare it to the one we head a few months ago. This has been some of my complaints for the last couple records. Some songs sounded like they were frameworks instead of final versions. If this is a trend for the remaining songs on the new album then I will be very happy.

Great, great song for summer cruising. I think it has a chance to be a Prince

classic. This is no throwaway track, by any means. I wonder if rock radio who

have distanced themselves from Prince will give this song a chance. I guess if

enough people want to hear it, they might have to. That would be absolutely

amazing to hear him in the rock format.

Yeah I do like the first version more right now, and this surprises me. I usually dig the rock songs far more than anything else. But the rock version of "Guitar" uses the hook too much for my taste. And it sounds like there's one too many verses now.

The first version is just so funky, and it works so well. That fourth verse doesn't sound like its out of place like it does now.

Now, saying all that, I have to admit I've only heard the rock version on low volume here at the office. I did play the Verizon snippet at top volume the other night, and heard some really cool bass and underlaid guitar.

Maybe I'll stay at work late tonight and after everyone's gone, I'll turn up the new "Guitar". I hope the cleaning people like to rock!

Ok, Middle age men can appeal to Teens. I work with Teens b/t 14 & 19!
I've been in the field of Social Work, for 7 LONG YEARS!!!
My clients are in an 18 month program, they know I listen to Prince and when the man performed on "Superbowl", they all seemed pretty excited and were all about his performance. Even asking me for songs to burn on their computer to listen too. They also enjoyed "Black Sweat" which appealed to the youngins!

The New Verizon Commercial everytime, gets them more excited that ME!
Age has nothing to do with it, especially when the music is catchy.

Prince has an appeal to the younger generation also. He's slowly but surely working his way back into the masses. Musicology opened alot of ears to what he was doing, besides the millions of die hards. 3121...Brought more attention and with the new single, which I've played a few times in my office, the 14-19 years love it!

The tree has fallen and it has made a sound, louder than most of thise crap you hear in rotation on radio.

I hope it gets massive play on the airwaves, but if not, theres other alternatives!

Mtv, Vh1, Internet, Concerts, TV Period (Marketing through commercials, playing the songs on various hit shows). There is a way!!!
Satellite radio, even folx like myself rockin it in my office and ppl taking notice. If it sucked they wouldn't ask, unless they said can you turn it down and I never experienced that with any of prince latest input!!!

If Madonna, Chilli Peppers, U2, R.Kelly, The Isley Brothers, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi - all can continue rocking out and get the young folx attention, Prince can also. There are so many young girls who I know absolutely love Madonna, I've also heard alot of young girls say Prince was HOTT and wants to see him in concert or has seen him in concert because their parents or older siblings have taken them to a show. So don't give me that crap!

Guitar has success written all over it and I gurantee Mtv will add it in heavy rotation once a video is released. Its perfect for the summer and for all ages!!!

If he plays this in Minne..he's gonna rock this song...love that guitar...sounds like a hit for sure because it's very catchy, and the guitar playing is awesome in this song. Can't wait for the album!

There's a line in there when he says "I wish you well" that sounds like a line he may have used in the demo version of "Feel Good, Feel Better, Feel Wonderful" that he asked fans' opinions on before the club shut down.

Awesome! It's time to learn to NEVER rule out what Prince can create! I love both versions of this song, the original for its quirky funk reminiscent of classic 80s prince, and this one for a bang up to date rocker!

I agree... The new version sounds great, but it does feel repetitive; like the verse-riff-verse-riff thing goes on forever. I like the quirkiness of the first version alot. Having said that, this one sounds great LOUD!!!

Oh, and that fade out just kills me, I gotta hear an extended version of this with that guitar solo just getting really interesting!

This version ROCKS! It's different from the Verizon commercial version, which I thought was an improvement, but still "meh". This one, I put on my headphones and played it LOUD and it ROCKED MY SOCKS OFF!

I just noticed that the opening guitar part sounds like the opening guitar part of Bleed It Out by Linkin Park. Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not claiming he ripped them off or vice versa. The rest of the song reminds me of Get Back by the Beatles.
