Ex-Moderator | The Paisley Report Wow. Prince has done it again!
We got to Paisley around 11. Doors opened up shortly after that. We paid $7 to enter. The soundstage was open. We headed in to find the One Nite Alone set, purple velvet curtains, video screens and all. Prince's guitars were all set up right in front of the stage. There was a camera set up on a crane on stage. The DJ was spinning a mix of dance tunes including plenty of Prince. There were maybe only 80-100 people there. We walked right up to the front of the stage. We were in for one fabulous show!! Or were we? We waited and waited and waited and waited. We started dancing a little bit, just to ease the boredom. Finally the cameraman got up on stage and started filming us. We started receiving instructions. Hands in the air! Look at the stage! Make some noise!! Pretend you're at the show! PRETEND!?!?!?! That's right folks! We paid $7 to pretend we were at a Prince show. Oh, and they filmed it. Wait a minute... Don't film extras usually get paid?? No. We PAID TO BE EXTRAS. For something that will most likely never see the light of day. Sure, there were a few minor highlights. Dancing is always a good time. There were plenty of fun people (lots of fellow orgers!). Prince walked out and sat behind the soundboard (where we couldn't see him...). But that was it. That's all. Goodnight. At about 2:30 the music stopped the houselights went up and we all had to leave. (Of course, we were all ready to at that point.) We decided on the way home he must have needed to pay for his plane ticket to Europe. He probably took in about $700. That should cover it. |

I was going to write this same review, but I couldn't have said it better.
Glad I chose tonight to bring a friend out to the Park.

Thank you Carrie, that summed it up perfectly! The only good thing was the people...it's always nice to see our people at the park and our ride home was HYSTERICAL... "Peanut M&M head" indeed... all in all, I've decided it's good to know that after the week of punctual, coordinated, perfect Prince that was the celebration, Prince is back to his old shenanigans...So, I can't be pissed, just a titch let down... If he only would've at least spoken or looked at the crowd as everyone cheered him while he walked to the soundboard... Ahhh well...another lovely nite in Prince land...

Bummer!
It'd be nice if the people at Paisley would inform people of what happened when something goes wrong, ie., technical problems, Prince isn't feeling good, not enough people showed up, etc. Or was Prince supposed to perform? I don't remember if the NPGMC post said ONA European Tour party or performance. The message is probably off the site by now. Anyway, sorry you didn't get a performance.

Prince had planned on performing because my friend was going to work the spot light, but they didn't give him a reason as to why he didn't actually play.
I had a sneaky feeling this was the case about 12:30 when Eric Leeds left the building with his sax.

I had a sneaky feeling this was the case about 12:30 when Eric Leeds left the building with his sax. Renato Neto-is that how you spell it?- anyway the keyboardist got in his car and pulled out of the parking lot when we were waiting outside in line. That should have been our first clue. |

D'oh! I missed that (Eric Leeds leaving) or I would've took off befor the lights were turned on...
While we were in line, Shawna noticed Renato and Rhonda leave and get into cars...we should've followed our gut instinct then... p.s...ZUM YOU CRACK ME UP!!! [This message was edited Sat Sep 21 1:33:55 PDT 2002 by endorphin74]

Hey, I just checked NPGMC and the message is still there. It does say ONA European Tour Party. Though I can understand everyone expecting a performance since the stage was all set up. Plus it seems like it's been so long since he performed.

Too funny.
Yeah, I guess when the band leaves, that's a surefire clue that something ain't right. I guess there was a performance planned. I wonder what happened?

While they were attempting to get people to dance for the film the dj said somthing like, "If you dance and pretend Prince is playing now then Prince will come out and give you the real thing later". Later he said something similar about John B. This was the only reason I stuck around because they basically told us that Prince was coming out. . Besides, It's so hard to leave once your there cos who wants to leave only to find out the next morning that he came out at 3am and played to the 30 people who hadn't given up... Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

o.k. so I don't feel bad well at least Prince threw a party now see that's what I like only 100 people just a small crowd is so much better than that Celebration Fiasco crap . O.k. well maybe more people, butdon't worry I'm coming and I was promised to be there before winter. With my luck Prince goes to Europe and I'm there well if that happens it happens. But I'm definitely going to be there. Just wish that everything was Perfect that's all and it seems like it Never is. It upsets me that it's just always a gliche. I know if this person tells me she thinks by Oct or another one tells me by November. I pray it's soon or I'm gonna just die. I don't want anybody promisingme for a Jewish Bride and making a Match. I want to be there soon.

Play em back ppl, PLAY 'EM BACK! just a thought...if yall had been like minded and pretended 2 leave the pretend party, would Prince at least pretend 2 get on stage 2 c who would stop pretending 1rst. amusing situation, but not if u came from a long ways away. but paying 2 have Prince play u? that's a new one, isn't it? Prince ...AND?

O.k. so it was disappointing that he didn't play but at least you got to dance and have some fun. I guess we can't always get what we want like the Stones say. I hope and Pray Prince get's inspired to Rock once more. I have plenty of Faith that he will.

Man, glad I didn't fly out. The one time my brother and I did drive all the way to Paisley we were lucky enough to actually see a performance. Who ever knows with Prince. We deserved it though after the 3+ hours he made us wait in the sub-zero weather.

We decided that he refused to play cos we didn't go thru enough pain to get inside... WE wished you would've flown out though, who needs Prince if you are there? TRON

Yeah. Sad thing is, there were people who had driven from Chicago and at least one person flew in from DC. I would be pissed if I shelled out money for a last minute flight and was subjected to that. Ah well. Life as a Prince fan... |

In fact, when we first got there and were still all excited thinking we were gonna see a fabulous show my only complaint was that our kitties weren't there with us. I'm actually glad I wasn't there cause I woulda been screaming my head off,but then again that's what they would have wanted. A fan screaming at a Prince concert. I think I would have led a chant of Prince , and We want Prince! We want Prince kinda like at the Sports Games! Yeah, give him a reason to get worked up and wanna play incite some Fire in him . Ignite his fuse. That's what ya should have done. Ya musta fell short some how. Damnit you gotta Excite him!

Depends on your mood - folks ain't always in the mood for games, his or anybody elses. Since it's only $7 it's not a big deal, but had I got off work & zoomed over there, or flew out like some folks did, just to "pretend" Prince was playing??? Maybe the folks in Minni are just over the games @ this point... Maybe Prince should have got on the mic & told them he'd play if they did this or that (sometimes you gotta ask for what you want). Maybe I wouldn't be saying any of this had I gone & just had a good time dancing... WHATEVER, just kick our asses w/ some music... Please??
