My first reaction is that it would be great to see him live for a year, but that would be draining eventually. A year of my life! I don't know if I have that sort of commitment, but listening to the music in the vault sounds like a sweet concept.
What would make it even better is having Prince talk to me about what/where those tracks came from and how they were created. I wish he'd write a book about his recording sessions and come out with CDs that fill in the blanks for the people who are curious. When I read THE BEATLES STUDIO SESSIONS, I want to go back and listen to the tracks involved. When THE BEATLES released their Anthology albums, it made reading the book even better. Imagine how great the combo of CD and book would be for a fan? I guess the difference is would I like to have something from today or something from the past... would I like to hear the same music over and over, or would I like to hear all of his songs... would I like to spend time with the man, or his music... would I like to enjoy his music in one place (a concert arena) or would I like to enjoy it anywhere... would I like to have something that lasts a year, or something that lasts a lifetime. I choose the Vault. So, when does this happen? I'll go sit by my mailbox. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. THE TOUR!!
Sure the vault would be nice but Id rather respect the mans reason for having it locked up in the first place. Id rather see prince behind the scenes ya know. See how he gets 1 min before hopping on a stage in front of thousands of people. Attend the rehersals and soundchecks. Attend the parties and studio sessions. I would definatly choose the year on the road versus the vault. | |
