It's kinda like Let's Make a Deal. I could take the vault, which is truly an unknown quantity afterall, and end up with the musical equivalent of a lifetime supply of dust rags.

At least the tour would be organic and if all access means I'd get rehearsals, sound checks, aftershows and studio time, too, then sign me up!
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I'd have to take The Vault! Shit, I don't have the kind of energy it would take to try and keep up with Prince for a whole year. lol

Interesting question, so I need to choose wisely. hmmm I would take the tour experience ONLY if I could have meaningful conversations with him from time to time. If not I choose neither! As for the level of energy I have plenty of that,he might find it difficult to keep up with me. lol

I'd like to remind people that choose the tour over his vault that only two words could make you re-think your decision (or two names rather):

*Pause*
*Pause*
"KEVIN SMITH", DAMMIT!!! (minus the "dammit")

Ya know maybe Kevin Smith shouldn't be so interested in whether or not Prince wears tennis shoes. falloff

maybe some of us tour people could work out a deal with the vault people. it's always better to work together.

Don't get me wrong, though. I think he's one helluva musician. Grand scholar if you ask me, but I would be pretty uneasy about meeting the guy because I know short fuses (Sometimes I have them, but not that much). I know it is really all just a presumption, even at this point, but, as a human being, I think "Prince" likes his privacy like anybody else. Maybe more. That's all I am saying. biggrin

I would definitely take the tour. Ultimately it might not be all that insightful, and could even be "a let down", as there can be quite an impenetrable gap between any artist and his/her work, but it is definitely that aspect of this artist that i would like to be privy to at this point.
also, i'm sadly thinkin' that there ain't much brilliant stuff left in the vault. hope i'm wrong though.

but i got to go with the tour, four shour.

At least you'd get outside state borders for once in your life!

But yeh, I do agree.
I have a hard time imagining that there is much good stuff left in the vault. Prince's songwriting peak was obviously in the 80's, and pretty much all of that made it into our hands one way or the other. Outtakes and such that have leaked post 1990 are definitely not something I would give up a year of touring for.

I might be interested in a quick stroll through the vault to grab some live recordings that I need, but I think that's pretty much all there's to it.

I'd take the TOUR. Seeing him for free, thats what I'm talking about. Plus, I get to travel places with him and, if I get to chill with the band (especially the drummer) I'm all for it!!!!

Hm. Prince admonishes me for smoking, drinking and cussing while trying to save my soul with Watchtower literature and cryptic questions.

I'll take the keys to the vault

I'd take the tour, and after a year on his ear, I'd convince him to release the vault..... cool

Man, that is an awesome question. A hard choice, but I'd go with the tour because if I had an entire year with him and had all-access then I'd make him like me so much that he'd end up giving me the keys to the vault anyway! So, in the end I'd get both! razz

It's a tough choice, but I would have to go on tour because I would get to travel for free.

i will say this, he fucked everyone in the ass with crystal ball.. he could have substituted 90% of that set with better unreleased shit.. but overall.. it can be left in the vaults for all i care.

i kinda agree with both of you. i'm annoying that way. among other ways. lol

i think hearing too many scraps and snippets would reveal too much of the man behind the curtain, and i really don't need to see or hear all that. a little bit of candid is good. having everything all splayed out like a dissected frog is just not something i need. gimme a little bit of of fourth wall between artist and audience, it's there for a reason.
