And, i don't consider Musicology or 3121 great albums, but i take them over The Rainbow Children any day.

I get bored of saying it, but the album is amazing. Wether or not you take the whole 'story' on board, is another matter. I would say even just lyrically, it is extremely imaginative. I aint into religion, personally, but it is an amazing piece of 'work'. Musically, fantastic. I like his music when he seems focussed, and TRC is a very focussed album.
And has anybody actually seen Star Wars?, he DON'T sound like Darth Vadar!

I'm not saying everyone, but alot of people who dislike this are the same people who love all his really commercial songs, and were dissapointed when this album wasn't full of hit songs.

Most Prince 'MUSIC' lovers, LOVE the musicianship on this album, regardless of 'story'.

If it was an instrumental, with the same tunes, most would say it was genius.

I think The Rainbow Children is genius!

Agreed.

I've posted many times about TRC here.
I believe TRC/N.E.W.S./ONA (piano v.and live) P was musically on a serious creative high. As others have stated, he seemed to be really inspired and focused and didn't care about appeasing the masses.
I like Musicology/3121 but I love TRC/NEWS/ONA. But, I like my music more experimental so there you go. cool
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

cool Appologies, I though I read a comment by you rating the two albums, out of 10?? obviously I got it wrong.

If you don't like it, why not just leave the subject alone, as obviously plenty of people love it, and wont persuade you otherwise.
We can't ALL like the same things. You dislike it, others don't, end of story.

This album for me still is one of the strongest in Prince's catalog, i liked where Prince was during these years, TRC/ONA/NEWS musically it was my favorite, the shows were incredible on the ONA tour, here in NYC when he played, it was like FIRE! Still my favorite day of shows, it was an hour soundcheck and a close to 3hr show and then a freaking amazing aftershow which featured that Amazing "Joy in Repetition" version which can never be topped, i was right in front of him when he played that. And band wise this was still my favorite, the core unit of Rhonda/John and Renato with Prince is perfection.
