PLANET EARTH Chart prediction, its rather obvious Ok im sure theres alot of speculation from people that still look at charts, and think they really matter. But heres how its going to go....PLANET EARTH will probably debut at Number 1, or very close, and then Week 2 it will drop off about 60-75% in sales probably fall into the 20's and then just continue to fall, its sales will probably top off at 300-400,000 overall, so lets get this nonsense out of the way already and realize this is how its gonna happen. Apparently, once you open the packaging, a secret-recipe vapour is released from inside which, when inhaled, will cause the buyer to go out many times over the next several weeks and buy another copy.
Genius marketing plan, methinks.

i dont know, if guitar is any indication it may be one of those "prince" albums. Guitar is stronger than TAC and Musicology as lead singles. if he's played within the system and gotten results with "so so" material (3121, musicology) what do you think an album of stronger stuff will garner?. He seems to appreciate the job columbia did with musicology and the way he's showing his face (socially, TV and extended stays in London, Vegas and LA) is really aggressive. I'll give him 700,000 domestic, 1.5 when you add Europe.I think the addition of wendy and lisa is a nod to the power of nostalgia ( saleswise) and he may have embraced the idea that he's a guitar god which will make alot of the tracks more rock oriented, therefor commercial. The timing is perfect, hip hop sales wise isnt the all consuming force it was in 2003.

Even if it drops, will be nice to see Prince get another #1.
Hopefully Prince working with Wendy and Lisa is a nod twoards things to come. Would be nice to see them finish Roadhouse. Timing is everything? Is it time for a new OLD Revolution cd? [Edited 6/16/07 10:25am]

I dunno at this point if I care or not, I mean he's solidified his place in music history, he's been inducted into the RRHOF, and tore it up and showed out and stole the show with his guitar solo on gently weeps there. Nothing more to prove performance or sales wise. I just want a good, undamaged, copy when I got to best buy to get mine! "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

it will debut at #7, of course

It'll debute somewhere in the top 10 I'm sure. Probably the top 3 albums.
But this doesn't mean, radiostations are going to increase the number of times they play "Call My Name."

The album will debut at #1 in the U.S., then drop, but that's to be expected, since:
1) The music industry itself is in free-fall. Nobody buys albums anymore. With sad music by hip hoppers, rappers, weak whiny rockers (ever watch Fuse?), who can blame em? 2) US Radio is horrible and will not play his music like they play other, worse "artists" like Beyonce (gag). 3) There aren't any music videos channels left to play music videos. 4) Prince albums are top heavy, all of his fans buy it the first few weeks. 5) It's being given away to concertgoers in London. I expect it to be certified as another gold record, and in the first week debut at #1, similiar to 3121. In other words, his third straight successful album. [Edited 6/16/07 11:20am] Which is my point exactly, everyone that is Established and has a following, and when i mean established i mean have been around 10-15 years at least and have 7-10 albums at least under their belt. All of these type of artist will sell to their base, which is how it should be, thats called having a career! My thing is that i know people are going to start "chart watching" and as soon as Planet Earth drops and drops, people are going to question Prince and his commitment to the record, so my point really is Lets get that nonsense out of the way, it is what it is. bearing in mind another thread I've just read linked to an article stating that Rave sold nearly 500,000 I think we can safely say that Planet earth will sell at least 1 million , probably closer to 2 . Prince was in career freefall when Rave came out and he still sold 1/2 million , those days are long gone , hes got considerable more clout again now . Your figures are way off .
