i only became a prince fan in 2003, so i wouldnt of known he even existed

I've always referred to him as Prince. It's not like i've known him personally - so i'm sure he wouldn't have minded.

I was nutty about Prince at 14 as well - ur so lucky having the internet. Before I discovered "Controversy" fanzine (which was kind of like a magazine version of this site), first I knew there was a new Prince album out was when I saw it on the record shop racks

yeah, i bought it on dvd from playback (little dvd/video shop in brighton)

When Prince changed his name I was busy and not into him then really, I went from a fan in the 80's, and in the 90's I was not paying attention, and came back for musicology fucking great concert too

anyhoo.....when Prince changed his name...I was listening to my morning radio program, they said "Prince is dead" the radio show did this whole thing that morning on how Prince is dead, blah...blah...blah...of course, I really thought he was dead the way the show was talking ...there were alot of pissed off ppl after that show. Later that morning when I got to work I found out why they said PRINCE was dead

I knew there was "some guy" called "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince"... but I don't think I knew b4 I came here that they were the same person. just goes to show waht I know.

But when I think about him during that time period, I liked to refer to him as ... I don't think I ever referred to him as "the artist" or "the artist formerly known as Prince"... and after hearing that those names were "invented by the media" I wouldn't use them even if I was referring to him from 94-99.

Heh, luckily he calls him Prince nowadays, so I avoided all that confusion.
But it's interesting looking on it and seeing how different his style was during those years.

I became a fan during the era, and I ate up every last bit of the story behind it. I was SO annoying! I referred to him as the Artist at all times, and I got angry at people when they called him Prince. Imagine a 13 year old me with clenched fists screaming, "He's not Prince anymore! Call him The Artist! Prince is dead! His name is an unpronounceable symbol now! Get it right!"
