Now that you're older, do you find it harder to be a Prince fam/fan?
I guess this question, is for the over 30 crowd but I know that I don't want to pay the amount that is being asked for tickets nowadays. Even if I had the money to see him in London, I wouldn't go. Responsibility is a bitch!
Plus to be honest, I do not enjoy the big venues or the problems that seem to arise when Prince plays a large venue. People fighting and getting drunk off their asses. I guess I got spoiled by the smaller venues like, The Fillmore, The Paramount Theater and San Jose State.
I do not want to ever sit out all night waiting in line for tickets ever again. And now that the NPGMC does not exist rendering our memberships worthless, I guess that's it for me!

Yes, certainly my youthful enthusiasm has waned quite a bit and I can't see standing in line all night or even standing in front of the stage for four hours waiting for an aftershow to start. But I've seen Prince live 30+ times so that is part of it...I saw him in his prime, so no big deal about not seeing him now.

But I agree with what you are saying and I would rather spend my $ elsewhere for the most part even though I love Prince for his past work.

I find it easier to buy stuff and go to shows now, but my all out undying, passionate devotion to him has waned since my younger days.

Does the fan with children, a mortgage and car(s) payments go off and see Prince whenever he decides to do shows that are overpriced?
Don't get me wrong. I am totally awestruck with Prince's musicianship and dedication to create such amazing music whether it be a live performance of CD.
I just can't go off and jump on a jet or steam ship at the drop of a purple hat.

Nah, I think it's easier. I hated the time when I was a young Prince fan. I took alot of shit from people.

See, for me it's different. I wanted to see him so bad when I was in college: The Lovesexy Tour. But I was broke. My roommates went w/o me. I called my parents for $35. and they reminded me of food, gas money, etc....

Now, at 39, I am single, no kids, and have a decent salary. I have no one to ask if I can stay out all night ("Honey, do U mind if I...?"), no babysitters to acquire...
The biggest problem I have sometimes is getting someone to hang with because my friends have those responsibilities. I don't, however, fly off to Vegas or London at the "drop of a purple hat" (cute phrase!) because I teach and am in grad school, so I have time responsibilities. When I can, I use sick days the day after shows.

Love him more now than ever and if he is close enough where I can drive to see one of his shows I will, If i dont have the money Ill charge it

no, at 39 i'm more objective about his music and i can admit when something is crap. i also enjoy that his longevity allowed him to rise beyond his generation, alot of my friends who ranked on him now respect him. it's also good that the artist that so many of my friends thought were better proved to be has beens and nowhere near as relevant. i dont even say i told you so LOL, i just shake my head.plus prince is kinda a cranky old dude and alot of his complaints about music are my own, and the best thing is (on my behalf) he can pick up his guitar and back it up.thats when i look at my 18 yr. old daughter and say damn youngins.

It is not harder to be a fam/fan older. It is actually much bettter. You appreciate & understand the music more than you did when you were younger.

But besides that? yes of course, as you get older, unless you're life has not changed since teenage, then it becomes more difficult. 10 years ago as a 28 year old there's no way I would have missed the Koko's gig a couple of weeks ago. But I've got a kid now, it's not something I can do without advanced planning.

I do find it harder to be a fan, based on his stupid "secrecy" problems, thinking that last minute shit is cute and clever. Guess what? It's not cute and clever, it's childish. Not all of us are gazillionaires who can just ship off whenever they feel, most of us have obligations, financial and familial.

On the flip side, Trent Reznor slams his own label for deliberately gouging his fans. I think at this point, I'd rather see NIN than Prince
