Rare/alternative album covers?

I was wondering, does anyone have any pics of artwork for Prince albums that was never used?

hmmm I have no idea why it says that on the cd artwork. On the front cover it says Come, so I guess that was always the name for the album.

That one looks like it was thrown together in two minutes!

If I could change a cover, it would be the Batman one. I'd take the shot of Prince in the card, half shrouded in darkness, and put that on the cover. The album's become less of a film soundtrack, and more of a P album over the years.

that 'come' artwork is kinda cool, but the layout looks like a sub-standard bootleg. i guess it was a rough mock-up?

Those are all awful - you seriously like the Come artwork?

Anyway, my favorite is this one, for ATWIAD:

in retrospect, i don't mind all that good times-style cartooning. i didn't like it back then, but i think it's aged well. so yeah, i can deal with the artwork. that layout is el sucko, though. i could do better on my nero cd labeling software. disbelief

I LOVE this alternate cover, and I can't believe Prince went with the one he did! disbelief I agree, though, the official cover has aged well as part of the Prince repertoire.

What's interesting to me now is that this unused cover looks stylistically like art we might see in a Jehovah's Witnesses publication. smile

totally. many of the boots released on sabotage and others have
had much better covers than some of his actual albums, lol.

i hate the covers for The Gold Experience and New Power Soul with
a passion.

how could he put that horrible typefont on TGE? along with that
lame picture it ruins the total feel of the album.

with a different, more slick cover and some more cool pictures
of him and the band, performing, him in the studio etc this cd
would feel much more like the thing it was promoted to be.

he hyped it for so long and spent so much time on changing the
tracklist and dragging it around everywhere he went and yet an
artist to make so decent artwork probably wans't to be found
through all of this.

if nothing else they should have just kept the gold cover they
allowed David Letterman to show when prince performed dolphin.

Well, you got the man playing with the tiger. That's not downright biblical, but its pretty darned close. biggrin

It's definitely kitschy stuff, but "hideous" is a wee bit harsh. I think it's kinda funny.

Agreed. Much of the '90s artwork is so awful it almost ruins the ethos of the projects. I can't immediately think of any packaging I like between, say, Diamonds & Pearls and The Rainbow Children.

Just the outside or the inside too. Because there are some really good pics on the inside but the outside i do agree wasn't good. I didn't like the cover for emancipation either.

giggle woops, i was talking about the come cover, though i like that ATWIAD painting too, just not as the official cover. i like what they used for the official cover. though that painting would have made for a good advertisement or something. it should have been used somehow, just not as the album cover.

I really didn't like any of those drawings that turned up on various releases throughout the 90's. prime examples are the MPLS and Exodus stuff.

Agreed. This one smokes the one that was used. Why P didn't go with this one, I don't know.
