It's not wrong to buy them. It's just wrong to sell them.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

i don't have a problem with live Bootlegs, after all Prince is never going to release 'small club' and the like, so it's not as if he is losing money there.

where he is losing money is with the NPGMC.I have all the downloads from last year plus loads of other soundboard quality songs (most 192 quality or above) did i pay $100 for the privelage erm...no.

I do buy his officially released albums and will continue to do so.

I've also forked out a whopping £100 pounds on 2 tix to an upcoming gig.(which i would have to have done anyway member or not.as for missing out on soundchecks, big deal!)

Musicians (and Prince!) used to make music for the love of it,not for $$$'s, but then what % of his money does he give to his Religion now?

Here is a thought that I had a while back. A year ago I finally bought a computer and got online. I caught the tail-end of Napster. At the time I found a few bootleg type things and I thought... "This is excellent!!!"

I think file sharing takes money out the bootlegger's pockets. What a great thing!!! Ever wonder if the big record companies are part of the bootleging thing too? Just a thought.

I agree that if he released all these songs officially I'd go and buy them from a shop, but as he hasn't I'm left with bootlegs and the internet as the only sources.

what happened to Crystal Ball II? Didn't he ask fans who went to the Celebration at Paisley Park a couple of years ago what bootlegs they'd like to hear most on Crystal Ball II? And where is it?

When he left Warner, I had high expectations that he would just release everything he could and if they sold then cool, and if they didnt it was no great loss (he's got so much money anyway). The fact is that he is the most creative musician since Mozart (can't remember where I read that), and most of it is locked away in this mysterious 'vault', where it is of no use whatsoever. The NPGMC seems to be a letdown in terms of releaseing old songs that were only previously available on bootlegs, so he's left the fans with no choice but to buy bootlegs.

What bootlegs do 2 Prince? Nothing...he doesnt really seemed inrested in them...why should he waste his time? Why should he care fans are getting them?

That's why some people suspected that he owned Thunderball & Sabotage. Those live recordings are in 2HIGH quality for him not 2 know.

He knows everything that's going on with bootlegs and stuff...he don't care. He pleases, teases (he said there's no studio recording of Possesed!!!).

He pretends like we don't know

Believe me he running shit

Again, I'll say that boots are the only things that kept me interested in Prince today. I think that some of the decision he has made have been really bad--especially to the fans like the law suites agains web sites. But someone introduced me to live recordins 12 years ago and I found a whole new world of Prince that I love now.

Can't get enought of the live stuff that's out there.

Amazing!!

Bootlegs definitely helped his fanbase. That's what really got me hooked. If he didn't, Prince should have bootlegged himself. He could of made a lot of money. I don't know what they cost ur way, but around my way the cost $20 per disc.

Bootleggers are assholes, plain and simple. $30-40 for a 2cd set is appalling. These people like to think they're some kind of musical freedom fighters yet they charge just as much(if not more) as any record company for the stuff they sell and make an even greater profit. If they had the mentality to lower their prices they might just sell a few more copies and in the long term make more money and get a a better reputation, but they're greedy cunts just like WB, EMI and all the rest.

Even so, it'll take a mere second to soothe your moral conscience. Personally, I think if you buy a bootleg, you should dub copies as a giveaway to any like-minded, or newbie, fans you meet.

Personally, I wouldn't. I would only make copies to trade. Making money off of boots is not something I could ever do, but I have no problem with trades.
