Bowie and Prince to play within a day of each other in London

According to reports from News Direct Independent Radio this morning (UK time), David Bowie has announced he is to play a commemorative one-off concert on 2nd October at the Hammersmith Apollo, the same venue where Bowie killed off his Ziggy Stardust alter-ego 30 years ago. Bowie is also aiming to further push promotion for his 2002 album 'Heathen' which marks his first collaboration with legendary producer Tony Visconti since the heydays of the 'Scary Monsters' album, arguably Bowie's last highly regarded musical statement.

Prince is scheduled to play at the same venue the following day (the tickets for the Prince show were sold out within two hours, according to Capital radio's Neil Fox).

A trip down memory lane reveals that this is not the first time that concerts from these two nearly clash with each other. During early June 1987 Prince quickly sold out at the Palatrussardi in Milan, June 1987, despite fierce competition from David Bowie, who was also undertaking an extensive European tour at the same time with his 'Glass Spider' extravaganza.

Prince, in turn, attended David Bowie's concert at the St. Paul Civic Center on 1st October 1987. A private screening of the S.O.T.T. film was held in a rented Minneapolis theatre for David Bowie and his entourage. Afterwards, Prince arranged a party at Paisley Park for Bowie's group of people and there were reports of a jamming session with Bowie and Prince onstage.

If anybody here at the org knows more details about this jamming session then feel free to contribute!

i don't know anything about that, but wouldn't it be awesome if they guested at each others gigs?

Memo to Prince - Don't forget to Ask David for advice on running a career successfully and maintaining your popularity when you are past 40.

It must be remembered that Bowie's own career was swirling down the toilet for at least fifteen years before he finally saw the light of day.

And before we become sidetracked about "who's cool" and who isn't, the primary reason for my topic was to ascertain the nature of the Prince/Bowie jamming session at Paisley.

If anybody has specific details it would be most welcome.

Giotto, as a matter of fact, you know what you should do? You should EMAIL the NPGMC and REMIND Prince of this. Prince may already know, but if not, TELL HIM you want to see a jam between him and Bowie! Let it be known, chile...smile
btw, I'm listening to "Fame" right now, with my eyes closed, just IMAGINING...sigh

Maybe my gratuitous use of these emoticons would help things along.
