Hey don't mix creativity with drugs. Most of the users use the same excuse to do drugs. You can be creative without drugs and Prince , alongwith some other great artists, is a fine example. You talk about Govt propoganda in the US - well, it's not just the US but almost all countries in the world which have banned drugs - except maybe some which have permitted Marijuana. Hence going by your logic, every damn govt in the world is wrong and drug users are right since drugs fuel creativity. It's better off living without such creativity which kills people. You talk about music created by great artists when they were on drugs, why don't you talk about all the great artists who died because of drugs . KUdos to all who have not touched drugs

Well done - you prove my point entirely!

Why not mix creativity with drugs - its what artists have been doing for 1000s of years - if you don't see that. you're seriously deluded! Most users use that as an excuse do they? Do you have evidence to support that claim, or are you just relying on your bias to suppose a reason?

Its the same bias that leads you to state almost as though you know it is factually correct (when you can't) that Prince doesn't do/hasn't done drugs. You lambast everyone else for not being able to accept the fact that Prince could be "clean" (another marvellous propoganda word that!), yet you clearly and illogically cannot accept the possibility that Prince has tried drugs.

Furthermore, I didn't say you can't be creative without drugs. Only a fool would say that and, I'm afraid, only a fool would infer that from my post. However, it is true that drugs may enhance creativity or certainly give it a different slant - its just a different experience. But again, funny how most of the best art has been created by "users" - its a fact. Disprove it if you can/want.

No, its not just the US government that peddles mis-information - again, is this news to you? Governments all over the world have lied about a great many things in their efforts to keep control. You are also wrong to tie in that users are right because drugs make them creative. That is not what I said and you have seriously missed the point (hmmm, noticing a pattern here?) For someone who's "clean", you don't seem to think with much clarity.

Ok - why don't you list all of the great artists you know that died because of drugs. Then make a comparitive list of those great artists that are still here today and have used drugs - I think you'll find the survivors list is lengthier than those that died. Keith Richards took more drugs than most other artists put together and he's still here. MacCartney, Jagger, Plant and Paige, Clapton, Bowie, Gilmour, Waters - all still here, all still revered.

Those that sadly passed before their time - well, there's an interesting correlation there too. Let's take 3 of the most famous examples;

Hendrix - died choking on his own vomit from a mix of illegal drugs and the legal drug alcohol. (which drug do you think was responsible for the vomiting?)

Morrison - see above

Bonham - again, down to vodka.

Want to give me your own examples, particularly of artists who died purely from illegal drug consumption? I'd love to see you substantiate your claims, otherwise you are as guilty as the many governments of this world of spreading mis-information.

Just to back up my, apparently, "crazy" assertions, consider the following;

Deaths in the US Year 2000

Tobacco 435,000
Alcohol 85,000
Advers reactions to prescribed drugs 32,000
ASPIRIN 7,600
Heroin 4,280
Ecstasy (MDMA) 63
LSD 0
Marijuana 0

What would any rational, logical person conclude from those figures?

So, in hindsight, I would say the craziest statement (at least, on this page) was from jacobpb when he said "Gee don't forget aspirin. Laughable."

What is laughable is the amount of people who will swallow what they're fed without doing a bit of research themselves.

Again, I'm moved to quote Bill Hicks "Go back to sleep America, you're government has it all figured out for you. Go back to sleep America, here's 100 channels of American Gladiators for you....."

Could you please post your source on the drug stats??

What I've read doesn't jive with your information. Thanks.

I would certainly think not... THAT is a very clear headed Prince. The interview was rehearsed and staged to hell with his own manager asking pre-approved questions.

I haven't seen that interview since back then, but i'll never forget it. I thought he was on another planet! It may have been rehearsed and staged, but he didn't seem connected. Doesn't necessarily mean he was on drugs, though...

Just because your mom and dad did drugs back in the day doesn't mean everyone did. I'm a teen of the 70's and I never was a hippy or did drugs, neither did prince! He's too smart, drugs burn out brain cells- permanantly confused

jay-sus, of course he did.
you don't expect him to be a multi-millionaire pop/rock star in America in the 80s and not do drugs, do you? ev'rybody in showbiz did coke and horse in the 80s, this was the way 2 party back then!
doesn't he say at the very beginning of Lovesexy "the reason my voice is clear is because there's no smack on my brain" or some such thing? [smack being of course slang for heroin]. he did a lot of that shit, and most probably stopped b4 doing the Lovesexy album.
since then, who knows. my guess would be he stayed clean most of the time, but still took a bite of something once in a while. but that's only a guess.

grow up, girl.

Don't think so. For all we know, he didn't do anything but lock himself up and record music. He never went out much to party, as far as we know, and he certainly wasn't in the least comparable to "ev'rybody in the showbiz".
I'm with those who think Prince and drugs don't go together (except maybe for the E story).

hey mindflux, i don't think any amount of justification can justify drugs. And talking about being personal, it's obvious from the posts on this topic that you are the one who has been launching personal attacks on people you think are 'unholy' since they don't do drugs. And Yes, it's a known fact that Prince has remained one of the cleanest artists of our times, and his peers in the music industry vouch for that.

I was checking out the JW thread here and I commented to my mom about it. I was saying how people make such a big deal out of it cuz he gave up his "dirty" work and cursing. She said how JW don't do drugs or drink, which I'm aware of. Then I said "I dont think he ever did drugs"... and she's like speaking to me in a tone that says "get a reality check".
My dad then commented, "He did A LOT"

I can't bring myself to believe a word of that cuz then that would make his music more of an illusion rather than something that came from his soul.

Does anyone know for sure if he really did do drugs in his younger days?

jw can drink i have been to jw get togethers moderation, kindness and a yes we had a glass or 2 of wine the belief is moderation in everything and a young kid in his situation at that time probably did do drugs

I'm fairly certain that the amount of drug sessions Prince has been involved in in relation to real music making sessions is very tiny and not worth mentioning and that these kinds of threads pop up more from a fans' fantasy point of view or to maybe even endorse a some fans' own lifestyles.

I'm quite sure that Prince keeps things so tightly controlled around him for a reason. So that these kinds of influences don't have much chance of entering into his inner circle at all.

Not only do I believe that Prince has TRIED various drugs, but I think he tried the hard stuff (Heroin) around 1982/83. If you look at a lot of the pics from that era he looks so "Heroin Chic", drawn, and strung out. Look at that picture of him and Vanity from the cover of "Rolling Stone" (They both look high as hell). In my non fact based beliefs, I believe that was probably the reason why Prince and Vanity broke up, she got hooked and he came to his senses. And by coming to his senses, I mean he moved on to Coke. Prince looked and acted like a coke-head during the "Purple Rain" era. I really don't believe that whole "high on life" and "B-12 shot" BS. Watching the "Purple Rain" Syracuse concert Prince looks coked-out of his mind.

He admitted to trying Ecstasy with Ingrid Chavez around the time of "The Black Album" and "Lovesexy". And there are just too many references of smoking weed around the 1993 and 1994 (Prince mocked inhaling; and proclaims "Fill us with de dope track, lick us, twist us, roll us in your mouth Light us up and take a hit, light us up and take a hit, Mmm, suck us 'til we're dry,And when we're lookin' like a roach, hit the lights" on the track "Now"). There were a lot of tracks from this era that made references to smoking weed. From 1994 to 1997 Prince often looked emaciated and just plain bad. I can't say that this was a result of further experimenting with drugs - but he looked VERY unhealthy.

The bottom line is Prince is a control freak. I think he's experimented with various drugs over the years; but his desire to constantly be in control has always kept him from getting hooked on any thing. You can start hating me now...but this is just my opinion, based on my observations over the years.

Prince doesnt do them .. as someone said.. he did B-12 shots for all the dancing on the stage .. and tried X once during the Black Album days (got messed up) hence 'Anna Stesia'.. that whole song was about his experience.. (was a thread on it .. Greg n Ingrid was there that night) ... and plus would have been ppl around him to witness it.. why would anyone lie for him? if he was doing it .. Congrtualtions on one of the most prejudiced posts I've read anywhere in a long time.

So you can JUDGE exactly what a person must be because of how they look, can you? Wow - sounds like "back of the bus" stuff to me - proper scarey.

I suppose you're one of those who might see someone of Middle Eastern origin and wonder whether they're a terrorist.

You say "people who have experimented with drugs will know" - I'm afraid those same people will not only realise that what you've written here is completely wrong and ill-informed, but that you clearly have NOT experimented yourself. I find those that try to speak from a position of inexperience, quite naturally, are not the best people to comment.[/quote:4bdf579884]

Well said, how can you even have an opinion on the experiences of drugs when you yourself have in fact not expereince the feeling of drugs.... do not get me wrong, theres only really downfall once you start to take drugs, but there are people who go out at weekends get completed wasted with their friends and work monday to friday, and then theres your addicts!!! completely different, you couldn't tell from looking at someone if they've had drugs, hello people there is a cocaine epademic well there is in the UK!!!
